Across the globe, women face numerous barriers when it comes to accessing financial services. In developing countries, women are often left out of the financial system, which impacts not only their own economic well-being but that of their families and communities as well. In many countries, women are still not considered as equal economic actors, limiting their access to credit, insurance, and other essential financial services resulting in the perpetuation of poverty, inequality, and economic exclusion.
Pro Mujer is a microfinance institution that has been empowering women to break the cycle of poverty since its founding in 1990. Its mission is to provide financial services and education to underserved communities across #latinamerica. What started as a small loan program for #womenentrepreneurs in El Alto, a suburb of La Paz, has grown into a movement of over 250,000 women across the region, providing them with access to financial services, training, and education programs in areas such as financial management, health, and leadership. Journals is a place where I share my perspective on the impact of Sustainable Finance in places where outcomes are poor and cost of failure high.
