I could do my job in my sleep. That’s not a brag. It’s the problem. I hit every number and haven’t been challenged in four years, and I’ve been calling coasting a career. In today’s entry, I write down what I will no longer accept, and I learn that a standard is just a line you draw in advance so you already know your answer when comfort asks you to cross it.

I was the first in my family to go to college, and I chose the degree that made everybody exhale. There was a rule I grew up inside that nobody ever wrote down: people like us don’t get to want the risky thing.
