Flydubai pilot stabs co-pilot and tries to crash plane

A Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv carrying nearly 175 passengers made an emergency landing in Saudi Arabia after a pilot stabbed his co-pilot and attempted to crash the aircraft. The plane plunged about 17,000 feet in less than two minutes before a passenger and crew overpowered the attacker. Israeli prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu called it a foiled attempt at an "Israeli 9/11" during a CBS interview.

Christa Pike survives two lethal injection doses in Tennessee

Christa Pike, aged 50, remains in hospital after Tennessee's attempt to execute her by lethal injection failed. Pike, convicted in 1996 at age eighteen for the murder of Colleen Slemmer, was still alive and snoring after receiving two doses of execution drugs. Tennessee governor Bill Lee has paused all executions for the year following the incident. Kim Chandler of the Associated Press witnessed the failed execution from the viewing gallery.

Dame Esther Rantzen dies aged 86 at New Forest home

Dame Esther Rantzen, broadcaster and campaigner, died aged 86 at her home in the New Forest surrounded by family. Rantzen was best known for hosting That's Life! and for founding charities supporting children and older people. Diagnosed with lung cancer in early 2023, she spent her final year campaigning for legalising assisted dying. Her final message urged donations to Dignitas and reflected on her long and happy life.

Harry and Meghan accuse paparazzi of targeting children at school

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have accused European paparazzi of unacceptable intrusion after two photographers were seen circling Archie and Lilibet's school in a white van. The couple's spokesman described the behaviour as extraordinarily reckless, with the photographers reportedly monitoring children during the school day. The incident has reignited debate over the privacy of royal children and the actions of the press in Europe.

Experts scan Durupınar Formation for Noah's Ark remains

A team of experts has detected a man-made object beneath the Durupınar Formation, a boat-shaped hill in Ağrı Province, eastern Turkey, using radar scans. The structure appears to contain corridors, chambers and hallways, raising speculation about the possible remains of Noah's Ark. The site has long attracted interest from researchers and biblical archaeologists seeking evidence of the Ark's final resting place.
