 December 1999, a blizzard has shut down the county roads around Bishop's Bridge, New York. Luna is working a double at St. Agnes Memorial — a small rural hospital that still smells like cigarettes and floor wax. The ER is empty. The waiting room is dark. A man in a soaked wool coat walks in at 2:47 AM, tracked with mud, asking for a room he says he knows is on the third floor. But the third floor was decommissioned six years ago. Luna walks him up anyway. What she finds in that hallway — a door that shouldn't be there, a call light that still works, and a name from the '93 census — stays with her longer than the blizzard.
