 Wendy and her husband, Peter Francis, have three married children and eleven grandchildren. Wendy is known in Australia for her activism on social issues, particularly concerning women and children. She been instrumental in shaping public policy across successive governments, earning respect from senior government ministers and policymakers. Her proven ability to advocate politically for justice and for the marginalised has made her a valued member of not-for-profit boards including Samaritans Purse Australia, the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association, Vision Christian Ministry, RealTalk and Interseed. Wendy is the author of four children's books - What Are Little Girls Made Of?; What Are Little Boys Made Of?; Turn, Think Tell; and I've Got a Secret published by Connor Court
