À propos de ce contenu audio
Born in Chicago on October 13, 2004, Matas Buzelis grew up in the suburbs of one of basketball's most storied cities before forging a path that few players have ever taken. A top-five state and Central Zone competitive swimmer in multiple strokes before fully committing to basketball, Buzelis developed a mental discipline and athletic foundation that set him apart from the very beginning. He sharpened his game through the Lithuanian grassroots program Lituanica in Lemont, Illinois, averaged 18 points per game as a freshman starter on the sophomore team at Hinsdale Central High School, and then leveled up at the nationally renowned Sunrise Christian Academy in Kansas.
Ranked a five-star recruit and the seventh-best player in the entire country coming out of high school, Buzelis turned down elite college programs including Kentucky, Arizona, and Wake Forest to join the G League Ignite, betting on himself against professional competition when most players his age were still choosing between campus visits. That conviction paid off on June 26, 2024, when NBA Commissioner Adam Silver called his name with the 11th overall pick in the NBA Draft and the Chicago Bulls brought him home.
His rookie season saw him appear in 80 games, averaging 8.6 points per game while shooting 45.4 percent from the field and 36.1 percent from three. His sophomore campaign has shown a dramatic leap, with averages of 14.9 points, 5.2 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.4 blocks per game across 45 starts in 28 minutes of action per night. Through 125 career games, Buzelis has accumulated 1,358 points while shooting 46.4 percent from the field, 36 percent from three, and 79.6 percent from the free throw line, all at just 21 years old.
