Fog lingered early across parts of the state, but it's gone now. Sunshine takes over. And temperatures explode. Metro Atlanta hits 79 this afternoon. Savannah climbs to 76 along the coast. Push inland toward Augusta and you're looking at 81 degrees — the hottest spot in Georgia today. Here's the thing: we're running 54 degrees to 54 degrees above normal. This is summer warmth in the first week of March. Tonight stays mild. Lows around 60 statewide under partly cloudy skies. Light south winds at 5 to 10 miles an hour. Friday cranks the heat higher. Atlanta reaches 82, the coast hits 78. And inland areas push 83. That's when the atmosphere gets restless. Afternoon showers and storms develop, especially north of I-85.
