 Good afternoon! I'm Aaron Jolly. And welcome to the Rhode Island Weather Podcast. It's Monday, February 23rd.. And folks, this is a full blown blizzard. Nearly six inches of snow has already piled up. Three and a half of those fell in just the last six hours. And it's still hammering down. A Blizzard Warning covers the entire state until 7 A.M. Tuesday. You'll want to hear how this breaks down regionally. In Providence, heavy snow and blowing snow continue through 7 P.M. The worst punch lands around 11 A.M. With two to three inches per hour. Winds are howling north at 21 to 32 miles an hour, gusting to 55 miles an hour. That's whiteout territory. You're seeing temps struggle to hit 30 degrees before crashing to 20 degrees by early Tuesday. Another three to seven inches on top of what's already down. Now swing over toward Narragansett Bay. It's even nastier. Winds screaming 25 to 36 miles an hour with gusts hitting 58 miles an hour. That's borderline hurricane force. Heavy snow flies until 6 P.M. With three to five more inches expected. Highs barely touch 32 degrees before dropping to 23 degrees overnight. The real villain today isn't the snow. It's the wind. Gusts to 58 miles an hour along the coast can snap trees and shred power lines. If you're not already home.. Get there. This is a hunker down storm. Tonight the snow tapers. Winds stay gusty. Lows settle near 20 degrees. The week ahead tells an interesting story. Tuesday brings sunshine and 31 degrees. Your one calm day to dig out. Wednesday flips the script. Snow changes to rain with highs near 39 degrees. Thursday and Friday hover in the low 40s with a rain and snow mix. Then the weekend finally dries out. Mid 40s. Almost pleasant. Keep your flashlights close and your phones charged tonight. Power outages are a real possibility. That's your forecast — we'll be back tomorrow.
