IDEAS from the Vault: Session 5 - Intersectionality
Semester One, Session Five of the Connect4Life Learning Channel
This learning series was delivered as a collection of webinars and workshops, originally a 12-part video compilation of training and sensitivity learning modules. We offer these sessions as archival and historic learning material.
This session aims to gain an understanding and acknowledgment of how social constructs are interconnected to an individual’s and/or groups’ lived discriminative or oppressed experiences.
We deliberate on the meaning of intersectionality, provide examples of individual & environmental intersectionality, increase our understanding of intersectionality’s significance on marginalized populations, and create intersectionality awareness.
Topics in this module include intersectionality terminology, existence of intersectionality, the importance of understanding the subject, why social identities matter, oppression and where it is found, power structures, privilege & power, and how to address privilege and power in terms of intersectionality.
The Connect4Life Learning Channel is one of three podcast channels owned and operated by the Connect4Life Media Network.
