À propos de ce contenu audio

In the year 2000 the UN Security Council launched Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace and Security - the first commitment to recognise the importance of women’s roles in conflict prevention and resolution. But more than 25 years on how much progress have we made? While the number of women at negotiation tables is going up, there is still a way to go. Fawzia Koofi is an Afghan politician, writer and activist. During her years in parliament she was a fervent activist for women’s rights and drafted the Elimination of Violence Against Women law. She was the first female Deputy Speaker of Parliament in the history of Afghanistan, and was a member of the Afghan delegation during peace talks with the Taliban in 2020. However since the Taliban took back power in 2021, being a woman in Afghanistan is extremely difficult, and Fawzia’s been living in exile in London watching from afar as the progress she made for women in her country is reversed. In today’s episode Fawzia and Stephanie discuss what peace really means after a war has ended, the difference that women can make to peace negotiations, and why Afghanistan is currently one of the hardest places in the world to be a woman. Host: Stephanie von Bismarck Guest: Fawzia Koofi Producer: Holly Fisher Production Manager: Angela Crago Executive Producer: Ellie Di Martino The series was recorded and edited at Pod Shop studios.
