In this episode of Group Chat Over Brunch, we're talking Black economics, financial freedom, entrepreneurship, and the power of community. Filmed at the beautiful Batuqui Brazilian Restaurant in Cleveland, we explore the economic realities of being a Black woman, particularly in a city that has historically ranked among the worst for Black women's economic outcomes.

We get personal about our own journeys, from navigating single motherhood and financial hardship to climbing the corporate ladder, taking risks, building businesses, and learning when it's time to pivot. We also celebrate the Black entrepreneurs who have helped shape Cleveland and the women who continue to create opportunities for themselves and their communities.

And, of course, we talk about sisterhood. Because sometimes the difference between where you are and where you want to be is someone willing to open a door.

This conversation is about recognizing the power we already have, challenging the systems that limit us, and being intentional about building the futures we deserve.

What happens when the love we learned as children follows us into the relationships we choose as adults?

In this episode of Group Chat Over Brunch, we're asking whether Black love is really in crisis—or whether it's simply evolving.

With guest Callie joining the table, we get personal about fathers and first heartbreaks, toxic love, attachment patterns, friendship, marriage, therapy, forgiveness, red flags and the ways our childhood experiences can quietly shape who—and how—we love.

We also talk about what changes after 40. When you've built a life of your own, love starts looking less like someone coming to complete or rescue you and more like companionship, honesty, friendship, fun, emotional safety and, perhaps most importantly, someone who doesn't disrupt your peace.

There are laughs, hard truths and one unexpected realization that changes the conversation in real time.

So, did Black love break our hearts?

Maybe.

But perhaps heartbreak isn't the end of the story.

Music has a way of taking us back. One song can transport you to your first love, your college days, that family cookout, or a night out with your girls. The soundtrack of our lives is full of memories—but what about the messages?

In our Season 2 premiere, we're asking a question we probably should've asked years ago...

What were we really listening to?

As teenagers and young adults, we knew every lyric. We memorized the hooks, learned the dances, and let the music become the backdrop to some of the biggest moments of our lives. But now that we've lived a little, we hear those same songs differently.

Some lyrics celebrated women. Others normalized disrespect, unhealthy relationships, and ideas we absorbed without even realizing it. We explore the tension between loving the music and questioning the message, while giving flowers to artists like Queen Latifah, whose music challenged us to think differently.

This isn't about judging the music we grew up on. It's about reflecting on the impact it had, the conversations it started, and what we choose to carry forward.

As always, we laugh, disagree, tell on ourselves a little, and leave with more questions than we started with—which is exactly how brunch should be.
