Joseph was a righteous man who was specifically chosen by God to fulfill a very important role in the redemptive story of the world. He did everything right, and still he found himself in the middle of hard situations. From his story we can see that:

God’s will for our lives will come with

  • Sacrifice
  • Problems
  • Things that don’t make sense

Pursuing the will of God does not mean our life will be easy or pain free. In fact, we are promised the opposite. But that’s because God’s primary will is not about what we do, but about who we are. His primary will for our lives is that we spend time with Him and become more and more like Him. Sometimes God will intentionally walk us through hard times so we can better learn to love and depend on Him. When we do that, we will learn how to pray, find our joy in God and be grateful for what we have. According to 1 Thessalonians 5: 16 those are the things that are God’s will for our lives.

When we look again at Joseph’s story, we’ll realize that God’s will for us doesn’t only come with hardships..

God’s will for our lives also comes with

  • Direction
  • Provision
  • Purpose

No matter what road God takes us on we can trust that He’s always working out a bigger plan than what we could ever come up with. He sees beyond what we can see so we can trust Him. He’s got this!
