Emanuela lived inside Vatican City, and her father worked for the Vatican. Just days after her disappearance, mysterious callers began contacting her family, claiming she had been kidnapped and connecting her case to Mehmet Ali Ağca, the man who attempted to assassinate Pope John Paul II.

From there, the investigation would lead into a maze of unanswered questions involving the Vatican, organized crime, international terrorism, mysterious witnesses, anonymous messages, unexplained remains, and even empty graves.
