  • Story: Aesop's Fables 1
    Mar 6 2022
As promised in my Blog, I am reading from Aesop's Fables, these are very different from the tales I have been reading. Aesop's name seems to attract stories to it, especially when there is no proof of ownership. The collection of fables attributed to Aesop date back to ancient Greece, but they maintain their relevance across time and culture because they touch on something that is deeply human in all times and places.

  • Story: Cinderella
    Feb 26 2022
This is an early version of Cinderella that most modern readers won't recognize. The slipper is not glass but rather gold. There is no Fairy God Mother no pumpkin, but it's still a version of the story that was told for centuries.

Cinderella is not a story about a girl with a glass slipper, it's a story of classism, sexism, misogyny, and the patriarchy. The reason this story gets so much traction is history is replete with young women with how can identify with Cinderella

  • Story: The Red Shoes
    Feb 21 2022
The story of the Red Shoes by Hans Christian Andersen is a frightening tale about the consequences of the sin of pride. This story is moralistic beyond imagination. The standard of piety is beyond imagination today. For simply taking pride in her red shoes a poor orphan is doomed to dance and dance until she begs to have her feet chopped off lest she die from the punishment of being forced to endlessly dance and dance.

  • Story: The little goose girl
    Feb 19 2022
A cute little story about a meek and humble princess that is ill-used by her maid as they travel, but the good king uncovers the evil plot and all is well. Except of course for the villain who dies a horrible death. As is the case with so many of these tales, the good are very good the bad are very bad and the punishments are medieval.
