À propos de ce contenu audio
This episode contains discussion of PTSD
Sport can be something that either fills somebody with excitement or dread. The thoughts of P.E. lessons at school with a teacher barking at you as you're pushed to the extent of exhaustion can leave anybody with childhood trauma.
However, some strive in the face of a challenge and excel when it comes to competing against others, proving to themselves and others what they're really capable of doing.
Although not everybody is given that chance and that can be down to judgement such a person's physical shape, their physical ability and even their gender. All it takes for one person to see the potential that could be there all along.
This week, Film-Ability will be discussing The Best of Men, the 2012 made-for-TV movie about the founding of what we now know as the Paralympic Games.
A story with simple beginnings that went on to be a global success and inspire a sporting event, showcasing the best disabled athletes in the world. However, being told through the lens of those who do not have first hand experience of disability could lead to problems.
Film-Ability is edited, written and hosted by Joel Fisher, author of Film-Ability: A History of Disability in Cinema that you can find on Amazon in Kindle and paperback.
