Hunger stats and causes of poverty in the Garden State discussed.

· Nearly 829,000 people lived below the poverty line in 2024 ($15,060 for an individual and $31,200 for a family of four is the poverty line)

· As a percentage the poverty rate for the state was 9.2% which was actually less than the prior year at 9.7%. o The national poverty rate is around 12.1%

· For New Jersey residents that had a mortgage, their average monthly housing costs were just under $2,800 or $24,000 annually

· Lastly, we see some economic, gender, and racial discrepancies with poverty rate

o The poverty rate for women was 10.1% compared with 8.2% for men

o Black, American Indian, and Alaska Native, and Latinx/Hispanic residents were also between two and three times more likely to live in poverty than White and Asian residents
