He left his native New Zealand at the age of just 16, with a hunger and a drive that led to successful spells with first Worcester and then Northampton. His abrasive, unflinching style quickly led him to international rugby, where his hunger caught the eye of the inspirational, but famously tough taskmaster (and current England coach) Eddie Jones.
