    • Reading Long Books and Carrying Newts to Texas
      Jan 21 2026

On this episode we open a nearly 21 year old Single Barrel American Light Whiskey by Rare Character and picked by our friends at the Lakeland Whiskey Society while we chat about Coors in Ireland, being excited and nervous at the same time, jet fuel, whiskey old enough to drink itself, 400 episodes of spilling whiskey, expo and rubber cement, striking a match and the room blows up, rich and rugged, reading the tome ahead of schedule, Lonesome Dove, pages are flying by, good titles, stealing a bunch of cattle, leaving Montana, where the book should have ended, you can't say the things that you want to say, learning a lot of geography, Buc Nuts as far as the eye can see, blindsided by character development, Yaint no law, insensitive aspects of the books, learning horse stuff, getting back on that horse, would you carry me to Texas, stupid final wishes, appreciating where you are, earning the journey as a reader, a top ten book and allowing yourself to be happy.

O'Connell as we chat about our sort of winter, Sheboygan WI, Nick's winter flops, HDT NDT and HGTV, Driving Mr Waldrep, the first independently bottled Powerscourt, Irish Whiskey DNA, not being afraid to be experimental, we've got to trust the bottler, AirBNB versus Hotel, negative hotel experiences, a place to lay your head, unpacking in a hotel room, the moral issue of AirBNB, Florence Italy or Alabama, pulling the sketchy alarm cord, where at least I've got AC, a Drep and Stone approved bottling, and making a ton of people really happy.
