    • Episode 8 - Coen Brothers Movies
      Jul 26 2025
Episode 8: Airplane!, Boyz n the Hood & Our Top 6 Coen Brothers Movies🎙️ Welcome back to Do You Even Binge?

      🗓️ On This Day...
1980: Airplane! premieres, redefining slapstick with deadpan delivery that still lives rent-free in our heads. “I am serious… and don’t call me Shirley.”
1991: Boyz n the Hood hits theaters, launching the careers of Ice Cube and Cuba Gooding Jr., and giving America a raw, powerful portrait of life in South Central LA.

      🎒 Main Topic:
This week we dive deep into the twisted, brilliant, and darkly hilarious world of the Coen Brothers. From bowling alleys to botched heists to existential dread in the American Midwest, we’re breaking down our combined Top 6 Coen movies:
      • Fargo
      • Raising Arizona
      • No Country for Old Men
      • O Brother, Where Art Thou?
      • The Big Lebowski (where’s Donny on the cover??)
      • The Ladykillers
      We unpack Coen hallmarks like:
      • The relentless pursuer (Anton Chigurh, The Bounty Hunter, Malvo)
      • Greed as downfall
      • Sudden, shocking violence
      • Offbeat dark humor
      • Symbolism, especially desks and counters as metaphors for power
      • And how often these movies remind us: you can't fight fate.

Stick around for movie breakdowns, character deep-dives, and lots of laughs. It’s bingeing, but with meaning… kind of.

      Jul 19 2025
Episode 7: First Color TV, Blade Runner, The Baldwins Reality Show & the Hilaria Baldwin Scandal

🎙️ Welcome back to Do You Even Binge?

      🗓️ On This Day...
1951: The first-ever color TV broadcast hits the airwaves! Arthur Godfrey hosted the CBS special “Premiere,” shown in living color to a small East Coast network.
Also, a huge shoutout to Guillermo González Camarena from Guadalajara, the Mexican inventor whose tricolor system helped shape modern color TV… and even got used by NASA!🗓️ More on this day:

1976: The Omen premieres, classic horror that traumatized kids on basic TV.
1982: Blade Runner arrives, changing sci-fi forever.
1988: Who Framed Roger Rabbit debuts and melts every kid’s brain with animated/real-life crossover magic.

📺 What We’re Currently Bingeing (Together):
Painkiller on Netflix, the true story of OxyContin’s rise and the opioid crisis. Starring Matthew Broderick and Uzo Aduba. We break down the acting, the anger, and the jaw-dropping corporate greed.

      🎒 Main Topic:
The Baldwins Reality Show & Hilaria Baldwin, The Boston Girl Who Pretends to Be From Spain
We spent the week hate-watching the Baldwin family reality show and deep-dived into Hilaria Baldwin’s bizarre “Spanish” scandal. From a yoga studio in NYC to faking a Spanish accent and ending up with seven kids, we trace it all…From “cucumber” clips to Griftmas 2020, this saga is messier than any Netflix documentary, including their worst red carpet moment.

🎉 This Week’s Game: Three Stars, One Alec Baldwin Movie
Lesa quizzes Felipe on Baldwin’s film career. Can he guess the movie from just three random co-stars?

That’s it for this episode, stick around for more scandals, trivia, binge recaps, and pop culture drama!

    • Episode 6 - Government Cheese and Felipe's Birthday
      Jul 12 2025
Episode 6: Miracle on 34th Street, Press Your Luck Scam, Government Cheese + Felipe’s Favorite Movie quotes.

🎙️ Welcome back to Do You Even Binge?

🗓️ On This Day...1947: Miracle on 34th Street, yes, the Christmas classic, was released... in June.
Starring John Payne and Maureen O’Hara, the film was completely stolen by little Natalie Wood and Santa Claus himself, Edmund Gwenn.

🗓️ Also on this day: E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial is released, directed by Steven Spielberg and starring Henry Thomas and Drew Barrymore.

🎒 1984: The Press Your Luck scandal.
Michael Larson memorized the game board’s “random” light patterns and walked away with a record $110,237 (over $330K today). His episode never aired again. Larson wasn’t just a trivia whiz, he was a lifelong scam artist. We dig into how he beat the system, ran various get-rich-quick schemes, and eventually died on the run in Florida in 1999.

📺 What We’re Currently Bingeing (Together):

      Government Cheese (Apple TV+)
Starring David Oyelowo, Simone Missick, and Bokeem WoodbineWe talk:
      • The look, the style, the camera work
      • The very 1980s vibe
      • And yes... the actual government cheese
🧀 In the 1980s, the U.S. had a 500-million-pound surplus of processed cheese due to dairy subsidies and began distributing it through food banks. Later, fast food chains helped move that cheese with new ultra-cheesy menu items. Capitalism is wild.

🎂 This Week’s Challenge: Quotes from Felipe’s Favorite Movies

      3. The Temptations Movie – “Ain’t nobody coming to see you, Otis!”
      4. Groundhog Day – “Okay, campers, rise and shine...”
      5. Snatch – The infamous “nemesis” speech

      7. The Royal Tenenbaums – “Burgers and the cemetery?”
