The best creators of our generations have one trait in common: curiosity.

And if creators these days were encouraged to embrace their curiosity than maybe, just maybe we could live in a world where our art (across all mediums) would have more depth and diversity.

Our would has become far too comfortable with slop being the norm (across all mediums of art) and because the industries aren't demanding anything else, as always, it's up to us as individuals to set the bar, not just for our own benefit, but the benefit of those who are so eagerly waiting to consume something that has depth and diversity and is free from this condition known as slop.

We, as a species, just really love to do things on hard mode.

It's indoctrinated into us through society, through our families and workplaces that how we approach things has to be on the most difficult mode possible. The thing is, what we don't realise, as an individual, community or even as a species, is that we do have a choice to check out of this mindset.

Perhaps, it's not possible to check out of this mindset in every aspect of our lives, but in our own internal worlds, especially in relation to our creativity, we can definitely choose the level of difficulty we want to approach it with.

We also, unfortunately as a species, have a real scarcity mindset, and this can turn even the nicest person into a mean little bitch.

Today, we are not only discussing the choice we have in how we want to approach our creative work, but also how scarcity and success loop into each other and can define the type of successful person we're going to be.

Note - I do not recommend the mean little bitch mindset, but you do what makes you feel happy.

As we write our stories, we will come across a nagging voice in our heads that is almost acting like a compass, in that it's trying to navigate us to pay mind to parts of our story that aren't working.

It can sometimes be challenging to have faith and listen to that nagging voice when we already feel we 'know' what's best for the story or are overwhelmed with others parts of the story we feel need our attention more, but time and time again, the novel writing process proves that if there's one voice inside of us that we should listen to, it's that one.
