The fourth episode of Deliver U.S. from Dehumanization tells the story of Silverio Villegas González, an immigrant from Michoacán, Mexico, and the single father of two young children. Silverio was only 38 years old when he was killed by an ICE agent. Moments after dropping off his three-year-old at daycare, he was pronounced dead on the side of the road. His story exposes the dangerous tactics agents now enforce on both non-citizens and citizens alike, revealing the fragility of the protections promised under the United States government.
This episode questions the limits of our humanity and asks how many more lives must be lost to restore what little remains. How much of our humanity are we willing to sacrifice in the name of enforcement, and is it worth it? A bullet does not distinguish between legal status, intention, or who gets left behind.
If you’ve been impacted by deportation, detention, or the constant fear of being seen as “other,” I want to hear from you. Your stories deserve space. Your voice deserves to be heard.
