Tribune staff reporter James Dysart does not great his new intern, Sharon Hodges, with welcome arms. He would prefer to be left alone. She shows him Chicago, Harley-style, and almost gets him killed in the process. Yet something about this young woman intrigues him, not the least of which is her dark past.

James Dysart visits the labs at Northwestern to interview Dr. Hodges' old advisor. Sharon tags along and keeps an old blind man busy while James investigates a house full of rats and a lot of scientific equipment. Some big boys chase them through the streets of Evanston.

James and Sharon take stock of their investigation, when James has an idea. As they dig deeper into the activities of Dr. Hodges before he went missing, they stumble on an address in an invoice that leads them to a warehouse in the South Side of Chicago.

James and Sharon stakeout a warehouse. James tells her a story of some rather unethical behavior with an alderman's wife. They spy a truck leaving the grounds. But the logo on the truck makes then more curious about what's in the warehouse than what's in the truck.
