On the 24th October 1997 a dinner party is held in Canberra, Australia. Rumour has it that the young couple hosting this dinner (25-year-old Anu Singh and her 26-year-old boyfriend Joe Cinque) have together chosen to end their lives, and this dinner is to be their unspoken "farewell". Nobody mentions the rumour, and nobody warns Joe.

Laci Peterson, the pregnant 27-year-old wife of Scott Peterson, disappeared from her home of Modesto, California, in December 2002. Scott Peterson became a suspect from the outset. Within days, a woman came forward saying that she was having a romantic relationship with Scott Peterson, and that he had claimed he was a widower preparing to spend his first Christmas alone... several weeks before his wife's actual disappearance.

On August 2nd 2006, thirty-two year old Robert Wone was finishing up work late. It was 10:24pm when he cabbed to the residence of a friend whose house he planned on staying at overnight. At 11:49pm, emergency services received a call for help, saying that someone in the residence had been stabbed by an intruder.

On the 22nd of November 2024, a group of eleven Lithuanians were attempting a multi-day rafting expedition down Tasmania's Franklin River when disaster struck.

On Sunday March 23 1997, emergency services received a call from 16-year-old Mark Duke, crying uncontrollably and saying "they killed my family". Investigators would find symbols associated with local gangs had been carved into the walls of the family home.

It’s the very early morning hours of September 23rd 2007, and 20-year-old Matthew Leveson is in Arq nightclub, on Sydney’s Oxford Street. At around 3am, one of Matty's friends realises that he hasn’t seen Matty for a while, and they exchange a few short text messages. This will be the last communication anybody has with him, and he’ll never be seen alive again.

On a chilly Autumn morning on the 9th October 2009, the Jamison family journeyed into Oklahoma’s San Bois Mountains, where Bobby and Sherilynn were considering buying a 40-acre plot. Nine days later, their truck was found on a remote mud road, with their dog Maisie still inside but alive. Also discovered were the family's ID cards, wallets, mobile phones, GPS system and about US$32,000 in cash.
