    What if possession wasn’t about demons? What if you didn’t get dragged kicking and screaming into Hell…but instead, you just woke up one day, and somebody else was driving?

    Welcome to Watseka, Illinois, where in the late 1870s, a young girl named Lurancy Vennum began slipping into strange trances, claiming to see spirits and eventually insisting that she was being visited by the spirit of a girl who had died years earlier.

    Her name was Mary Roff. And according to the people who witnessed it, Mary didn’t just talk through Lurancy. She knew things, recognized people, and remembered places. This is the Watseka Wonder, one of the strangest and most heavily discussed possession cases to emerge from America’s Spiritualist movement.

    But this episode isn’t just about Mary Roff; because possession is not an exclusively Christian phenomenon, and demons aren’t the only entities humanity has blamed for taking the wheel. So we’re opening the Cottage doors and taking a trip around the world to look at the many faces of possession: spirits, ancestors, djinn, wandering souls, trance states, cultural beliefs, and the very strange places where psychology, religion, folklore, and genuine human experience start stepping on each other’s toes.

    Is possession a supernatural invasion? A psychological phenomenon? A cultural language for experiences we don’t yet understand? Or did Lurancy Vennum really become somebody else?

    Then we travel back through one of history’s strangest alleged possession cases: the terrifying ordeal of Gotleiben Dittus and the infamous exorcisms led by Johann Christoph Blumhardt.     The Creep Cottage has gone full Escher painting from hell — doors loop, rooms shift, and the gang can’t tell if they’re trapped inside the house or if the house is trapped inside them. As Oliver, Camilla, Bonethy, and Cryptopher wander through endless halls, they stumble across three cursed locations that echo their own collapsing reality.


    First stop: Bachelor’s Grove Cemetery outside Chicago, where restless spirits and phantom cars drag the living straight into the swamp. Then it’s off to Egypt’s Farafra Desert, where the ghost of Pharaoh Akhenaten is said to wander the dunes, forever searching for his stolen bones. Finally, they reach York, England, a city so haunted it’s basically the Disneyland of death — complete with 2 black swans, ghostly patrons of The Golden Fleece, and so much more.


    But something’s wrong. Every story starts to sound… familiar. Every ghost seems to know their names. And by the time they find the front door again, the Creep Cottage may have rewritten itself entirely...
