In the late 1960's, "The Children of God" indoctrinated members into a religious movement; teaching that their perverse sexual exploits were God's will. Founder David Berg's son, Ricky, was meant to become the heir to his father's radicalized empire, but instead, Ricky sought justice for himself and the others that had suffered abuse while in the cult.

Christ Community Church, was an evangelical church located on Bainbridge Island in Washington state. In December of 1997, the church community hit a sweet spot. Many of the congregants were having babies at the same time and raising kids around the same age. For Dawn Hacheney and her husband, Nick, they believed they were right where they needed to be.
