    Join Chandra Hendren and Emma Wilson Neal as they dive into what Christ has taught them about political and civic engagement. They share their experiences coming to know God and Jesus Christ as young children and how their faith in Christ has helped motivate them to become politically and civically involved. Emma shares how God can place us in situations to engage in civics and politics. Chandra shares how she has learned that "just because you don't care about politics, doesn't mean politics isn't interested in you." They discuss the principles of love and humility that Jesus Christ taught and how that can help us handle the contention that can arise in politics and be humble in our interactions with each other as well as being humble with God. Chandra and Emma also share advice on not being disengaged from politics and civics and how Jesus' words to "fear not" can help us in this area of our lives.

    Chandra Hendren has over 16 years of public policy experience having worked as California State Legislative staff, and a Utah Legislative liaison. Chandra has also worked as a policy director for the Missouri State Legislature and currently works as Regional Director for Heritage Action for America.

    Emma Wilson Neal registered her first friend to vote in 2007, but really started to be involved during the past couple years. From 2020–2022, she has worked promoting non-partisan voter registration drives around the world. She then spent a few months as a volunteer, gathering signatures for a candidate she believed in. For the past 18 months, she has been involved with civic education, working with the Utah Civics Project and Women's Work Utah.

    In this episode of the Connecting Goodness podcast, Portia Thompson talks about her journey of learning to have Jesus Christ in her life daily. She shares stories about walking the streets of Jerusalem, choosing to serve as a missionary in Brazil, and her service to her family, friends, and community in Belmont, Massachusetts. Portia says that when she seeks intentional time with God, there is room for everything else. She loves inviting Christ into her life, asking, "What comes next for willing hands?" and then watching the Lord do His work. Her two favorite scriptures, Isaiah 41:10 and Proverbs 3:5, have helped her build and maintain a constant walk with God.

    Sione grew up on the island of Tonga and saw the gospel of Jesus Christ impact his family at a young age. He continued to learn about Christ's love when he served as a missionary in Samoa and needed to change his perspective about the people there. Sione shares that since his time as a missionary he has learned to "love more" and show love to the people around him the way Christ does.

    Sione also shares about his experience moving to the United States and how being humble before God helped him through this challenging time. He continues to be excited about God's work and helping others come to Christ in his roles as a husband, father, and bishop.

    In this episode of the "Connecting Goodness" podcast, Olga Davydova Allred shares her story of coming to know God. After joining The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Volgograd, Russia when she was 17, Olga served as a full-time missionary in Moscow, Russia. Olga returned from her mission to serve as a public affairs representative for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in southern Russia and shares her experience building relationships with government officials and people of other faiths. Olga describes how two scriptures have defined her life, "but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord" (Joshua 24:15) and "Be still, and know that I am God" (Psalms 46:10). Following this counsel led her to sell everything she had and move to the United States to start a new life. Olga testifies that God knows us and our circumstances. He cares about our weaknesses and shows us a better way. Finally, Olga also shares that the most important relationship to build is our relationship with God.
