  • Record Cattle Sales
    Feb 19 2026

In that recent Booth's Cherry Creek Ranch sale, we noticed that there was a bull that went for $45,000. Let's learn more about Booth's Cherry Creek Ranch.

"I got started as a young boy. I was born and raised right on the ranch where the sale barn is here in Veteran Wyoming. Dad was an avid performance breeder and kept all the performance records and would submit them to the American Angus Association. And so this is in the mid 60s and so you know I'm five, six-year-old when I'm nine, I buy my first bread heifer out of Montana, a bred female and that was my first cow, then of course I was of age to be able to show them. I had a lot of Angus heifers in my 4-H project and did branch basically off a dad's breeding program." ~ Sean Booth from Booth's Cherry Creek Ranch.

From the National Beef Wire, Emporia Livestock in Emporia, Kansas delivered a strong sale with 712 pound steers at 417.50 and 758 pound steers at 403.00, setting an all-time high for seven weights and marking the ninth highest seven weight price on record. Their 804 pound steers sold at 367.00 dollars ranked as the third highest eight weight price in barn history. In the nine weights 912 pound and 901 pound steers both brought 344.00, good for the seventh and eighth highest prices ever at the barn.

Congratulations to Emporia livestock and congratulations to the Ogallala Livestock Auction mMarket in Nebraska celebrating 75 years in business.

The owner shares insights into his journey from commercial cow-calf operations to specializing in registered Angus breeding. They emphasize the importance of genetics, focusing on the maternal line for breeding quality.

    • Angus cattle are highlighted as a standard in their region due to their versatility and desirable characteristics, particularly in breeding for heterosis (hybrid vigor). Keith discusses the value of embryo transfers and plans for building a strong maternal line in his herd for future growth.

    • The conversation addresses an upcoming auction for the ranch, which is conducted online through DV Auction. • Meet Ostrand Angus
    Feb 16 2026
    • Kory Ostrand of Ostrand Angus, located in Mason City, Nebraska, discussed the origins of his involvement in livestock. Kory detailed how he used money from selling a 4-H steer to purchase a registered Angus heifer at the age of nine, marking the beginning of his journey into registered cattle breeding. His family's ranch has been operational since 1884, making him the fifth generation to run it. They are strategically located about 50 miles northwest of Kearney or 30 miles southeast of Broken Bow, an area known for its quality cattle farming conditions.

Current Range Conditions: Despite experiencing extremely dry conditions, the weather has been favorable for calving. They are nearing the end of their calving season with over 600 registered calves delivered. The weather has fluctuated from 75 degrees during the day to the 20s at night, posing challenges for the adaptation of young calves. Water availability has been a critical component for the success of the operation.

Upcoming Sale: Ostrand Angus is preparing for an upcoming sale on February 18th, offering 150 long-yearling registered Angus bulls and 54 open registered Angus heifers. This event, taking place at their new sale facility, will also be available online through DV Auction, allowing for broader access beyond in-person attendance.

Business Strategy and Marketing: The Ostrand program focuses on a balanced trait approach, offering a diverse range of bulls and heifers, including calving ease and power bulls. The interview highlighted their strategy to enhance buyer access through online platforms and emphasized maintaining buyer engagement even in variable weather conditions. Hale Broadcasting is assisting in promotional efforts for the sale, offering additional advertising services on their platforms.

  • Red Angus Breeder Cody Berg
    Feb 16 2026

Now here's a Red Angus breeder from North Dakota, Cody Berg.

How did you get started in the livestock business, Cody?

I guess I was kind of born into it. My wife and I are the sixth generation. We farm and ranch alongside my parents and then I got a younger sister who farms and ranches with us as well. So we're a family operation here in northwest North Dakota and back in 2012 my dad purchased our first registered but Angus females and we sold our first handful of private treaty bulls in 2014 and hosted our first official private treaty bull sale in 2016 and just last year we switched to an online auction platform.

If you're going all online are you going to still have the bulls there?

So our sale will open up at 8 a.m. 16th of February and it's going to run to 8 p.m. on the 18th and I guess for those that aren't familiar with how an online auction works all lots will close at the same time at 8 p.m. central time on the 18th and any bids that are placed within five minutes of closing time the auction will be extended one other five minutes. We still welcome anybody out to the place for viewing of the animals and we actually offer a boots on the ground credit a hundred dollar credit to anybody who views cattle before a sale day and so we'll be offering 30 yearly and red Angus bulls and 40 commercial red Angus replacement heifers that are from the heart of our commercial herd and our commercial herd has been closed for several years bred by bulls that we've raised here on our ranch.

Cody Berg, Lazy D Red Angus of North Dakota. We'll have an easy link to that sale on Cattleman's Corner under Featured Sales.
