  • DTCP 044 - Little Green Men of Steep Rock Lake
    Apr 28 2026

Send us a text, tell us your canadian creepy!

In the summer of 1950, deep in the remote wilderness near Steep Rock Lake, a quiet evening on the water turned into something far stranger.

A couple claimed they saw a shining object resting on the lake… and small, human-like figures moving around it.

What followed was a story that spread quickly through a mining town, capturing the imagination of a country already looking to the skies in the early days of UFO fascination.

But like many stories that refuse to fade, the truth behind the “little green men” may be far more complicated.

Was it a genuine encounter? A misunderstanding? Or something created deliberately… that took on a life of its own?

In this episode of Down the Crooked Path, we explore the strange case of the Little Green Men of Steep Rock Lake, where isolation, imagination, and mystery collide—and where even a hoax can become something much harder to explain.

  • 064 The Barbara Stoppel Case Part 05
    Apr 23 2026

Send us a text, tell us your canadian creepy!

    They knew who he was.

They knew what he had done.

And still… they were told to wait.

In Part 05 of the Barbara Stoppel case, the investigation reaches a breaking point. As the reinvestigation team closes in on their prime suspect, internal politics, missing evidence, and mounting pressure from an impending public inquiry begin to stall everything.

Despite clear recommendations from FBI profilers and their own investigators, the push to conduct a critical interview is repeatedly denied. Instead, the team is redirected—forced to chase old tips, revisit dead ends, and give the appearance of progress while the opportunity to secure a confession slips further away.

Behind the scenes, frustration boils over. Memos are ignored. Warnings go unheeded. And the consequences of past decisions—destroyed exhibits, mishandled evidence, and years of tunnel vision—continue to haunt the case.

Because at this point, this isn’t just an investigation.

It’s a race against time… and against a system that seems determined not to face its own mistakes.

In this episode of Canadian Creepies, we examine what happens when justice is within reach—but power, politics, and pride get in the way. 🕯️

  • Bonus Episode - A Ghost in the Room: A Conversation with Ann McDougall
    Apr 22 2026

Send us a text, tell us your canadian creepy!

What happens when you take ghost stories out of the shadows… and place them inside historic homes?

In this special interview, we sit down with Ann McDougall, author of A Ghost in the Room: Supernatural Adventures in Historic Houses, to explore the space where history, belief, and the unexplained collide.

Drawing on her years working in historic house museums, Ann shares the stories that shaped her book—from quiet, unsettling encounters to the broader patterns in how we’ve tried to understand and communicate with the dead across time.

    But this isn’t blind belief.

Ann approaches the supernatural with both curiosity and clarity—examining the rituals, the cultural shifts, and the science behind ghost hunting, while also calling out the frauds and performative hauntings that have shaped the narrative.

Together, we talk about what draws us to these stories, what it means to witness something you can’t explain, and why the desire to reach beyond the veil has endured for centuries.

This is a conversation about ghosts—but also about people. About memory, place, and the stories we choose to hold onto. 🕯️

  • DTCP - 043 Old Montreal Hauntings Part 02
    Apr 21 2026

Send us a text, tell us your canadian creepy!

Old Montréal is known for its beauty. Cobblestone streets, historic buildings, a city that feels frozen in time.

But some parts of its past were never laid to rest.

In Part 02 of our Old Montréal hauntings series, we step into places where history still lingers.

At Auberge Saint-Gabriel, the city’s oldest inn, guests have reported piano music with no source and the voice of a child echoing through empty rooms.

In Place Jacques Cartier, once a site of execution and torture, whispers and shadowy figures have been seen moving through the square.

And inside Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel, figures are said to appear within the stained glass as the weight of fire, famine, and loss hangs in the air.

These stories are more than hauntings.

They are echoes of violence, faith, and survival woven into the foundation of the city.

In this episode of Down the Crooked Path, we explore what still lingers in Old Montréal. 🕯️

By the time investigators began to take a closer look, the pattern was impossible to ignore.

In this episode, we examine the escalating violence of Terry Arnold—a man who moved through cities, left behind victims, and repeatedly slipped through the cracks of the system meant to stop him.

From missed opportunities and ignored warning signs to multiple victims across the country, the case reveals just how long this pattern was allowed to continue.

We also revisit the impact on the Stoppel family, as the truth slowly begins to surface after years of silence, loss, and misdirection.

Because this isn’t just about one case.

It’s about what happens when the right person isn’t held accountable—and how many others pay the price.

  • DTCP 042 - The Witch of Plum Hollow
    Apr 14 2026

Send us a text, tell us your canadian creepy!

In the 1800s, in rural Ontario, one woman became known for what she could see.

Elizabeth “Mother” Barnes—often called the Witch of Plum Hollow—was said to read tea leaves, predict futures, and help locate missing people in her community. Some believed she was gifted. Others weren’t so sure.

Rumoured to be the seventh daughter of a seventh daughter, her reputation spread quietly through Leeds County, built on word of mouth, strange accuracy, and stories that lingered long after the moment had passed.

In this episode of Down the Crooked Path, we explore the life and legend of Mother Barnes—where folklore, belief, and the unknown blur together.

Because sometimes the most unsettling stories… don’t come from what we see.

They come from what someone else already knew.

As the case against Thomas Sophonow begins to unravel, another name comes into focus—one that was present from the very beginning.

In this episode, we examine the man who slipped through the cracks.

From early warning signs and escalating violence to repeated police contact that led nowhere, the pieces were there. They just weren’t put together.

We also explore how investigative tunnel vision, flawed procedures, and missed opportunities allowed the real suspect to remain free—while an innocent man was pursued instead.

Because sometimes the truth isn’t hidden.
    It’s overlooked.

  • DTCP 041 - The Ghost Ships of the Eastern Shore
    Apr 7 2026

Send us a text, tell us your canadian creepy!

For centuries, people along Canada’s eastern shores have reported the same impossible sight:

    A glow on the water.
Fire where there should be none.
A ship appearing… and disappearing just as quickly.

From the Northumberland Strait to Baie des Chaleurs, sightings of burning vessels have been recorded for generations—some vivid, others just a flicker on the horizon.

Explanations range from atmospheric phenomena to stories of curses, pirates, and ships that never made it home.

In this episode of Down the Crooked Path, we follow the legend of Canada’s burning ghost ships—and the moments that stay with those who’ve seen them.
