This morning's devotional is from "The Fountain of Life" by John Flavel as we look at the 17th sermon based on Eph. 1:22: "And he has put all things under His feet, and gave Him to be the head over all things to the church". Last sermon we looked at Christ's kingdom of grace in the hearts of his people, and here Flavel shows us the kingdom of providence over all creation. Jesus isn't just the King of Zion, he is also the King of kings, and Lord of lords. He rules all things by his sovereign dominion and wisdom. Flavel shows us what this means, and applies it to our hearts that we might bow the knee, and not grumble over our circumstances—for they are all working for our good, and for God's glory. This is the sweetness of knowing the High King of Heaven. Enjoy!

Here Flavels opens up the first part of Christ's Kingly office in its spiritual reality in the hearts of God's people. He conquers the hearts of His elect with Gospel power and He rules them by His Word and Spirit as we submit to His Royal Law. He then closes the sermon with applications to the people of Christ's Kingdom. Behold the King in all His beauty!
