Have you ever opened a cabinet and had something fall out immediately? You didn't even touch it. You simply opened the door and suddenly a plastic container comes flying at your head. That's when you realize somebody—possibly you—has been stuffing things into that cabinet and hoping gravity would sign a confidentiality agreement. Eventually, pressure has to go somewhere! Which brings us rather appropriately to Blame It on the Volcano, our Guatemalan coffee with delicious chocolate, caramel, and toffee notes. Guatemala has numerous volcanic regions, and volcanic activity has helped create mineral-rich soils in many coffee-growing areas. Weather, altitude, drainage, soil composition, coffee variety and farming practices all work together to influence the coffee that eventually reaches your cup. But here's a coffee fact you may not have heard before: coffee plants can take several years after planting before producing a significant harvest. Think about that. Before anybody enjoys the finished coffee, somebody planted a coffee tree and waited. They cared for it before there was a harvest to show for their work. There's a life lesson hiding in there. We live in a world that wants everything immediately. We plant something on Monday and by Wednesday we're digging it up to see why it hasn't grown. But worthwhile things often need time. A dream needs time. A business needs time. Relationships need nurturing. Faith requires patience. And sometimes we're growing even when we can't see the results yet. So, if something you've been working toward hasn't happened as quickly as you'd hoped, don't automatically assume nothing is happening. Keep tending what you've planted. And if your kitchen cabinet erupts in the meantime? Well...Blame It on the Volcano. Visit Cager's Coffee Hut at www.cagerscoffeehut.com and remember to keep brewing kindness one cup at a time.
