  • How to DIY your dream music career feat. Kirsten Izer
    Aug 6 2025

Kirsten Izer is no stranger to channeling her creative energy in unique ways. Initially starting out her music industry career as a publicist in New York City, she quickly realized she’d be happier exploring her own voice as a solo artist. Since relocating to Los Angeles, she’s built a name for herself as a singer-songwriter and performer, most recently dropping her debut EP, The Perfect Hire.

Kirsten sat down with Marilyn for a candid conversation about utilizing her PR skills to advance her music career, finding inspiration on social media and the importance of making a big impact, regardless of the audience size in front of you.

  • Why musicians should embrace influencer culture feat. April Kae
    Jun 25 2025

There is perhaps no better personification of an “emerging modern artist” than April Kae, whose career has already spanned global festival stages, social media stardom and now a long-standing brand relationship with famed guitarmaker, Fender. A master of evolving alongside the always-changing industry, April’s ability to navigate both online and IRL landscapes make her a force to be reckoned with, and she’s doing it all in 5-inch Balenciaga Crocs (displayed in full glory in this video). This summer, you’ll find her on stage at the newly-revived Warped Tour, performing with critically-acclaimed rock band Fever 333.

Marilyn sat down with April for a deep dive on the strategy behind “musicians as influencers,” including how to catch the attention of brands, growing and cultivating a digital audience, and the underscored importance of representation in the live music community.

  • Best advice for getting started with your independent artist career feat. Desperate Hauswives
    Apr 23 2025

For those who know Fiona and Celeste, you’d be hard-pressed to find a more inseparable duo. After a chance meeting at a FRENSHIP show in LA years ago, they became fast friends, roommates, and eventually, business partners. Separately, under the performance names Fiona Grey and talker, they’ve experienced success as solo music acts, opening for artists like Charli XCX and Wheatus. After the events of 2020, they decided to join forces for two new projects: Cherryland, a boutique marketing agency, and Desperate Hauswives, a punk band inspired by the hit ABC drama.

Marilyn had the opportunity to sit down with Fiona and Celeste at the historic Mint theater in downtown LA, where they discussed their music marketing philosophy, DIY expertise and candid advice for aspiring artists.

    Apr 9 2025

So who exactly has the distinction of being the first to feature global pop superstar Chappell Roan in an editorial interview? Meet Emily Treadgold—music industry expert, journalist, and founder of the female-owned-and-operated media site, The New Nine. Known for publishing over 5,000 articles featuring the likes of Chappell Roan, Billie Eilish, Kim Petras and many more, Emily has established herself not only as an industry trend spotter and digital marketing expert, but also a successful business owner. To date, The New Nine has expanded to include multiple writers, over 75,000 social media followers and a dedicated audience of readers who believe that fandoms are (and always have been) the backbone of the music industry.

Marilyn had the chance to sit down with Emily to share how they first met on TikTok, the harsh reality of posting opinions to an audience of thousands, and several other hot takes (Spotify playlists, indie music, festivals, we covered it all). • Is LA the new Nashville? feat. Nathan Jacques
    Mar 5 2025

Nathan Jacques is no stranger to a life of free-spirited wandering—but for today, we catch up with him at The Mint in Los Angeles, California. Originally from Massachusetts, Nathan’s Nashville-inspired sound currently finds its roots in the American west, drawing inspiration from his love of classic western films and a gritty performance style. His nostalgic music videos feel more like full-length movies, complete with adventure, love, and of course—a few bad guys.

In conversation with Marilyn, Nathan shares more about the process of pressing vinyl, his philosophy on DIY music video direction, and the age-old question: can a country artist find a home in LA?

  • Life as a working producer in LA with Dresage
    Feb 12 2025

Keeley Bumford, known professionally as Dresage, rarely has a free minute to reflect on just how much she’s already accomplished as an artist, singer, songwriter, performer, composer and, most recently, producer. But her traction speaks for itself: she’s amassed millions of streams on Spotify (for both her solo and production work), landed sync placements in critically acclaimed shows, and collaborated with producers like Jai Wolf and AG. Most recently, she produced the song “rage” for DEZI, which quickly racked up thousands of views after a viral moment on TikTok.

Marilyn had the opportunity to sit down with Keeley to get the stories behind her incredible career, including a sync placement on Better Call Saul, the imperfect journey into music production and her life-changing awakening as a queer woman.

  • Love Ghost uses YouTube algorithm to jumpstart his independent artist career
    Jan 29 2025

Finnegan Bell, known to the world as Love Ghost, always knew he wanted to defy genres. He describes his own music as a combination of rock, grunge, metal and emo—influenced by everyone from Kurt Cobain to Rihanna (who he hopes to share the stage with someday, as you’ll find out in this episode). But what really sets Love Ghost apart from his contemporaries is the marketing strategy he employs for his music, including a viral music video made popular by his growing fanbase in Latin America.

In today’s episode, Marilyn chats with Finn about his current content strategy, emphasis on mental health, and the incredible (true) story of his first million views on YouTube.
