À propos de ce contenu audio

My name is Jesse Everett. I’ve loved reading since I was a kid, but recently I discovered the true power of deep reading. I’m in love with building character, and books do just that.

This podcast will be a reflective documentation of the growth of my character through reading and acting. I believe that everything we put into our minds comes to pass through action, and action leads to habit.

The ancients of Rome have a beautiful word mos, mores — mos in the singular, mores in the plural. The word means habit, custom, way, or practice. When used in the plural form, the word means character. This is where we get our word morals. The ancients knew that our habits were the strongest test of character.

What do we do with this gift of time? I hope I can read deeply and nourish my virtues. If you want to do so yourself, this is the place for you.

Follow along as we study from any book that will grow our character — from etymology to modern Chinese, from the rocks beneath the surface to the stars above the atmosphere, from lessons in Genesis to modern self-improvement books, and from classical authors to today’s essayists.
