À propos de ce contenu audio

I'm Matthew Hernandez. My focus at Book Chat With You is to create a space where we can chat about literature together. My goal is to not make a space about me rather to make this space about you. Nearly every video is intended to a conversation with you.

I do not know what is going on in the world of publishing or trends. I don't have a TBR. I do not plan to do a book haul recording. I am not zooming through books in epic speeds. In nearly every video I will summarize the text, read at least one page from the story or text then discuss what we could discuss together. I want to find that balance between making the content about you and personal branding, but this is not generally a place for me to lecture you. There's enough content out there filled with people giving unsolicited advice whether that's good or bad is beside at the moment.

At this moment I am primarily focused on shorter texts so I can pump out content faster but also so you could read it too to chat.

  • Sailors Lost at Sea — Helena’s Summer of Drift and Discovery
    Feb 20 2026

Matt Hernandez (Book Chat with You) discusses Carol Shields’s short story “Sailors Lost at Sea,” about 14‑year‑old Helena who travels from Winnipeg to St. Croix with her poet mother. Helena becomes trapped in an old church and reflects on her mother’s fascination with local lore, the small annoyances of travel, and growing up between cultures.

The episode reads two standout pages and explores themes of adolescence, cultural ritual versus religion, and the uneasy charm of a foreign place — all through Helena’s limited third‑person perspective.
