    • From Baby Loss to Neonatal Nurse: Amy Draper on Motherhood, Grief & Manifestation
      Feb 17 2026

In this deeply moving episode of Becoming Lucy, Lucy and Hana sit down with Amy Draper — a mother of five whose journey through motherhood has been shaped by love, loss, faith and resilience.

Amy shares the story of her first son, Charlie, who was born with gastroschisis, a serious abdominal condition where a baby’s intestines develop outside of the body. Charlie lived for 12 precious days. Amy speaks openly about the instincts she had during pregnancy, the conversations with doctors, and the heartbreaking decision to let him go.

We talk about what grief really looks like — not just in the immediate aftermath, but in the years that follow.

Amy also shares how her experiences deepened her calling within neonatal nursing, returning to work with families in the very environment that once held her own story.

In this honest and powerful conversation, we explore:

      • baby loss and navigating grief as a mother

      • pregnancy after loss and the journey to a rainbow baby

      • neonatal care and supporting families in crisis

      • manifestation, intention and the power of language

      • mental health, faith and resilience

      • trusting your instincts as a parent

      • turning pain into purpose

Amy also opens up about her youngest son, Donnie, who was diagnosed with Aarskog-Scott syndrome, a rare genetic condition. She shares the uncertainty during pregnancy, the medical decisions they faced, and what it means to raise a child with additional needs while holding onto hope and faith.

Together with her partner, Amy created The Magical Rainbow Babies, a beautifully written children’s book designed to help siblings understand grief and the loss of a baby in an age-appropriate, gentle way. Amy generously gifts copies of the book to families who need them.

If you would like a copy of The Magical Rainbow Babies or want to connect with Amy, you can find her on:

This episode isn’t about “overcoming” grief. It’s about living alongside it — and finding strength, meaning and connection through motherhood.

If you’ve experienced pregnancy loss, are navigating motherhood after loss, or are raising a child with a rare condition, this conversation will stay with you.
