Something about Halloween makes even a familiar place feel off. We start with a petty, funny argument about masks and why we bother with costumes when we can literally shapeshift, then we pivot into what we came to do: share Halloween kids book recommendations you can actually use for story time, bedtime, or a classroom read-aloud.

We run through a tight stack of Halloween picture books, including Room on a Broom by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, the delightfully unsettling “Creepy” set by Aaron Reynolds and Peter Brown (Creepy Crayon, Creepy Carrots, and Creepy Pair of Underwear, with a Caldecott Honor flex), plus lighter picks like Pete the Cat Five Little Pumpkins and Pete the Cat Trick or Treat. Then we talk about The Skull by Jon Klassen, a quick read that proves you can keep things simple and still land a serious spooky mood.

And then the studio fights back. A loud crash. Nobody around. A creeping feeling that the lot is not as empty as it should be. As we try to close up and leave, we end up relying on the same thing the best Halloween stories rely on: staying connected when the atmosphere turns. If you love Halloween books, children’s literature, and the strange comfort of getting scared on purpose, this one is for you.

A studio boss walks in, smiles, and drops a career plot twist: Baby Baby just got nominated by the Academy of Oscars for best performance of a song in a musical. There’s only one problem. It’s an action movie. From that moment, Evil Glaxi and I get trapped in the funniest kind of logic loop, trying to understand how a “not a musical” movie keeps sounding exactly like a musical, and what it means to be praised for something you’re not even sure you wanted to do.

The nomination comes with real stakes. We talk through the shock of being told you’ve earned your way out of contractual obligations, becoming a free agent overnight, and still being asked to sing at the ceremony. We play the nominated track and react to the big feelings baked into the lyrics, then watch the whole “project” go off the rails in classic Book Point fashion. If you love entertainment satire, musical comedy chaos, and characters who cannot stop arguing about labels, you’ll feel right at home.

Then we pivot back to books with a celebration-themed stack that fits the moment: Let’s Celebrate You for little graduates, Let’s Party for food and menus, and Let’s Celebrate Special Days Around the World for a wider view of why people gather. To close, we attempt the other movie anthem, “We have a chance to have it all,” and prove that practice can be inspiring, messy, and absolutely unhinged at the same time. If this made you laugh, subscribe, share the show with a friend, and leave a review so more listeners can find us.

A role offer comes in out of nowhere, and it should feel like a victory until we hear the catch: the part requires singing. Baby Baby walks into the studio buzzing about landing “Reddy Cat,” then immediately realizes the job includes learning folk songs, getting comfortable with a guitar, and performing like a 1960s protest folk singer. The result is a funny, slightly frantic, and surprisingly useful talk about what happens when opportunity arrives before you feel ready.

We turn that anxiety into action by reaching for books that actually encourage instead of just cheering. We talk through why classics like Dr. Seuss’s Oh, The Places You’ll Go can reset your mindset when you’re overwhelmed, and why E.B. White’s Charlotte’s Web still works as a masterclass in support, self-esteem, and showing up for someone. We also highlight modern picture books that reinforce persistence and ambition, giving you a quick “reset button” when impostor feelings kick in.

Then we build a practical folk music starter kit with titles tied to Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and Ruth Seeger, using American folk songs as a beginner-friendly path toward singing with confidence. We wrap by performing a song live, proving the point that progress is allowed to sound messy before it sounds polished.

They’re talking about a “wonderful cat” while you’re trying to audition and suddenly you’re sure you blew it. That’s the mood we’re unpacking as Baby Baby walks back into the bookstore feeling shaky, uncertain, and convinced the casting room never really saw the performance at all.

We stay honest about what that post-audition whiplash feels like: the long wait to hear back, the lack of feedback, the temptation to spiral, and the not-so-funny question underneath it all, “What if I’m not actually good at this?” Along the way we brush up against the pressure of being “on” in public, from customer service to showbiz, and how easy it is to turn one awkward moment into a story about your worth. If you’ve ever wrestled with imposter syndrome, rejection sensitivity, or confidence that disappears the second you need it, you’ll feel seen here.

Then we do what this podcast does best: reach for books. We run through a mini shelf of self-esteem building reads that hit surprisingly deep, including Giraffes Can’t Dance, I Like Myself, Chrysanthemum, Confident Ninja, Invisible Boy, and Wonder. We talk about why children’s books can be powerful confidence tools for adults too, because the themes are clear, the emotions are real, and the lessons actually stick when your brain is overloaded.

We close with hope, a “razor’s edge” mantra for creative careers, and a goodbye that turns into a heartfelt little song. If this gave you even a flicker of courage, subscribe, share the episode with a friend who needs a boost, and leave us a review so more listeners can find the show.

A movie audition drops into our morning like a surprise pop quiz, and suddenly everything gets louder: the nerves, the jokes, even the catnip coffee. Baby shows up early with a script for “Ready Cat: The Awakening” and a tight deadline to memorize, while we try to keep things steady with a simple rule that feels oddly serious under pressure: no cream, because it ruins the voice. If you love character banter and fast pivots, this one turns everyday prep into a tiny comedy of errors.

While Baby searches for Penny Pendula, we slide into a speedy, listener-friendly stack of superhero books for kids. We call out favorites like “Mia Mayhem Is a Superhero,” “Stunt Boy,” and family-centered picks like “My Mom Is a Superhero” and “My Dad Is a Superhero,” plus quick bedtime-ready options like “Five-Minute Marvel Stories” and a DC Super Friends collection. If you’ve been hunting for children’s superhero books, easy read-alouds, or short stories that actually fit a busy schedule, you’ll walk away with titles to look up right away.

Then the twist hits: the script goes missing. What do you do when preparation disappears and the clock keeps moving? We turn the panic into a quick song, a messy pep talk, and a real reminder that confidence is easier when you rehearse, even if you think you can wing it.

A crowded bus, a bruised ego, and one sharp realization: new people can walk into our bookstore every single day without knowing who we are. That thought kicks off a frantic, funny push to level up customer service and stop treating “future fans” like they’ll magically appear. We keep it playful, but the takeaway is real for anyone in retail, bookselling, or small business growth: if you want a fan base, you have to meet people where they are and give them a reason to care.

We also get wildly practical with a rapid-fire stack of five-minute storybooks for busy families and bedtime chaos. Think fast storytime, short attention spans, and easy wins for parents and caregivers. We talk through big-name favorites like Bluey Five Minute Stories, Marvel Five-Minute Avenger Stories, Star Wars collections, Blippi five-minute stories, plus Pete the Cat five-minute and bedtime story picks. If you’re looking for children’s books that sell, quick giftable reads, or a simple way to make better recommendations on the floor, you’ll leave with a ready-made list.

And yes, we detour into an aggressively short nursery rhyme performance, because sometimes building an audience means doing the thing you swear nobody wants. The twist is the sweetest part: real superfans show up and remind us what loyalty sounds like when it’s said out loud. If you laughed, cringed, or nodded along, help us out: subscribe, share the show with a fellow book lover, and leave a review so new listeners can find us.

You know that split-second feeling when you pat your pockets and realize your house keys are not there? We start with that exact problem, along with a bus ride taken purely for fun, and the oddly emotional truth behind it: access to home is more than logistics. It’s comfort, independence, and the little personal rituals that make a day feel normal. When the fix becomes “just take my keys,” it’s sweet and practical, but it also sets up the bigger theme we keep circling back to: what makes a house feel like home.

From there, we jump into a rapid-fire set of book recommendations centered on houses, shelter, and belonging. We shout out the classic picture book “The Little House” (and yes, we notice it’s from 1942), then widen the lens with “A Place Called Home” from Lonely Planet Kids, which looks at houses around the world and raises a smart question about privacy. We also mention “Mi Casa Is My Home,” plus “Two Homes,” a helpful pick for kids navigating families across two spaces. To round it out, we bring in Kevin Henkes titles and even a nature twist with “little houses” found in seashells.

And because our brains can’t resist a pun, we close with a short song built around the idea of not being able to sing on key without your keys, followed by a perfect final joke about yet another lockout. If you love cozy banter, children’s books, and quick recommendations about the meaning of home, hit play. Pollen doesn’t care about your recording schedule. One minute we’re opening the doors at the bookshop, the next Baby Baby is in full allergy-attack mode: runny nose, itchy eyes, no meds, and a desperate search for tissues and the first aid kit. Evil Glaxi tries to help the way only Glaxi can, with a “special” catnip coffee and a plan to turn the chaos into something useful and funny.

That plan becomes a rapid-fire, kid-friendly guide to children’s books about allergies and food allergies, built for parents, teachers, and anyone trying to help a child understand what’s happening in their body. We talk through picks like Daniel Has an Allergy (Daniel Tiger), the silly relief of The Itchy Saurus, and the graphic novel Allergic for readers who want feelings, friendships, and the real social stress that can come with allergies. We also hit the Alvin Ho series for laughs that still feel weirdly accurate on a day when everything is irritating.

Then comes the twist no one asked for: the “contract” requires a song. What follows is a short musical meltdown, a little reconciliation, and a very real decision to pause life and go get the missing allergy medicine. If you’ve ever been ambushed by seasonal allergies, managed a peanut allergy plan, or just needed a good laugh while you sniffle, this one’s for you. Subscribe, share the episode with a fellow allergy sufferer, and leave a review with the book that helped you most.
