On the cusp of this country’s 250th anniversary, we host a presentation that features the words of Frederick Douglass who looks at the 4th of July celebration from the perspective of those still awaiting true emancipation – the enslaved population that helped to create the wealth and status of the so-called ‘United States of America.’ The UpSurge Jazzpoetry Ensemble are the featured performers.
