  • David W. Poling "A Man of Purpose"
    Sep 15 2026

Dave always has that infectious smile.

A 44-year veteran of the machine tool industry, Dave’s remarkable career began in 1961 as an apprentice at Cincinnati Milling Machine and carried him through more than four decades in our industry, eventually retiring from the Ellison/SMW division.

Along the way, Dave witnessed—and was part of—an incredible period of change in machine tools, automation, and robotics. And through it all, that infectious smile never seemed to disappear.

  • Scott Mciver Chairman of Methods Machine Tools
    Aug 7 2026

Scott is the third-generation owner and steward of one of the oldest machine tool importers / distributors in the United States.

Scott’s story hits a number of hot buttons for me personally. His father, “Clem,” was what I would call a real machine tool man—part of a generation that understood the machines, the customers, and, most importantly, the relationships that built this industry.

Scott’s story gives us an opportunity to follow not only three generations of a family business, but also the history and evolution of the American machine tool industry along the way.

It’s a story about family, machines, relationships, change, and the people who helped build an industry.

As Tim shares his background and the path that led to Ellison Technologies, I want listeners to really lean in on his description of distribution. He explains the position of the builder and how the outside channels fit into the equation — and it’s one of those insights that quietly explains a lot about why some organizations work and others don’t.

Many of us can learn from this!
