  • Go Plug Sports! 2026 Edition
    Oct 17 2026

If you’re a longtime listener to both Go Plug Yourself and The 9to5 Entertainment System you know that each show tends to veer into hockey talk pretty frequently. However, not every co-host feels the same way. Where Venditto, Lawrence and I are happy to talk about the Habs all day long, Walter and Sarah could care less. Over on 9ES you can practically hear Jono’s eyes glass over when Scott and I start to talk about line combinations and whether or not Reinbacher should be called up.

Well guess what? Reinbacher is called up and he’s playing TONIGHT.

Chris Venditto, Scott and I do this thing once in a while and now is the time for us to do it again. That’s right, it’s time for another episode of “Go Plug Sports”.

We break down the first few games of the 2026-2027 campaign of the hometown heroes: the Montreal Canadiens. We talk about those dastardly Americans demanding trades. We finish things off by doing our best at projecting what the standings might look like heading into the Playoffs next Spring.

Enjoy the show! We’ll be back with our regularly scheduled programming in two weeks!

  • 9ES 373: The Pop Culture Phenomenon
    Oct 9 2026

We recorded this week’s episode of the 9to5 Entertainment System as the results of the 2026 Quebec election were rolling in. Maybe it’s fitting then that we talk a lot about a bunch of horror movies in the second half, am I right anglophones?

I went to a couple of “big” concerts over the last few weeks. I saw Weezer and Gorillaz about a week apart. The contrast was pretty stark. Both shows were great. But where Weezer stuck to crowd favorites that were mostly recorded in the 90s, Gorillaz sampled from their full catalog, mixing up classics from 25 years ago with tracks off their latest and everything in between.

It leads me to suggest: Are Gorillaz the most consistently relevant act of the last 25 years? If you want to hear me fully defend this position you should probably listen to the episode. See? That’s how we get you!

2026 has been a pretty landmark year in the world of horror. I watched Resident Evil, Jon and I watched It Ends and Scott watched Obsession. We give you mostly spoiler-free takes on It Ends but if you want to hear our full deep-dive you should check out this week’s “Garbage Time”. For the other two films we provide more of a “first take” since we’ll wait until a few more of us get the chance to watch these flicks to give a more measured take.

Over on Garbage Time I give more or less my closing thoughts on 100 hours of Cyberpunk 2077. Jon and I dive into spoilers about the meaning and metaphors of It Ends and then I make Jon and Scott watch the absolutely bonkers sex scene between Elizabeth Berkley and Kyle MacLachlan in Showgirls. We also talk about how Waterworld could have been so, so much better if it had a better soundtrack and editor.

If you would like to show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time that would be appreciated.

  • 9ES 372: She Suddenly Likes Earth
    Oct 2 2026

A friend of mine saw Teenage Sex and Death At Camp Miasma by himself and apparently when he left the movie theater he found himself immediately wishing he had watched it with someone else so he could talk about it.

I feel the same way. I mean, I saw it Sarah but as much as my wife rules and loves genre films (as evidenced from the Fantasia Podcast Series we do together) she is not a fan of dissecting movies with me.

That’s why I have this podcast. Unfortunately, Jon and Scott haven’t seen Camp Miasma yet so sadly the conversation is a little one sided. But you should see it. You should listen to this episode and then rent Camp Miasma. I’ve planned your day.

We do get to rank a few movies for The List though which is become a bit of a rarity these days where two or more of us have all seen the same movie. The monoculture is dead you guys.

Jon and Scott both saw the new Supergirl movie so we get their takes on that and then Scott finally took my advice from episode 354 and watched Predator: Badlands. He even has some of the exact same hot takes as I did back then and thinks it ties in really with Alien: Earth. So listen to my version in episode 354 and listen to his version today.

Over on Garbage Time we finally talk about Southland Tales since it’s been a while. A quick search of the ole’ 9to5.cc website tells me that at least some of episode 150 was about Southland Tales. Episode 150 was 8 years ago so it’s fine that we talk about it now behind a paywall. That’s capitalism for you! We also sneak in a little wrestling talk with a classic round of “AEW vs WWE” and round things off with softball and Star Wars. “Softball & Star Wars” could be the title of Scott’s hip-hop mixtape.

If you would like to show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time that would be appreciated.

  • GPYS 344: Dan Seligman (POP Montreal)
    Sep 22 2026

The Montreal arts and entertainment podcast that asks POP Montreal Founder and Creative Director Daniel Seligman: “Who you voting for?” That question asked back in our previous episode by the one and only Zach Oskrdal.

It’s wild to think that we’ve been doing this show for so long and we’ve yet to sit down with Daniel Seligman. Dan is one of the founders of POP Montreal which has always been one of my favourite Montreal music and arts events of the year.

POP Montreal is celebrating its 25th Anniversary which is wild since I remember attending the first few editions way back in my college days. Dan was nice enough to sit down with Sarah and I to talk about 25 years of POP Montreal memories. From some of the acts that played POP and blew up only months later, to memorable shows that will never be repeated. We also run down some of the highlights of this year’s edition as well including a special announcement that we won’t spoil now (you have to listen to find out what it is or tune into POP’s official channels). POP Montreal starts tomorrow September 23rd and runs until September 27th so head to POP Montreal for the full lineup and tickets. Enjoy the show!

  • GPYS 343: Zach Oskrdal (World's Smallest Comedy 8th Anniversary)
    Sep 17 2026

The Montreal podcast that asks musician and bartender Zach Oskrdal: What’s the last album you listened to start to finish? That question asked by Dawn McSweeney and Troy Stark back in our last episode.

If you’ve ever been to the World’s Smallest Comedy night at Hurley’s or even just to Hurley’s when it’s NOT the World’s Smallest Comedy Night you probably had your drink served to you by the one and only Zach Oskrdal. Well, Zach is also a musician and you can catch him playing all over town including the legendary Dépanneur Café. We talk about Montreal, music and so much more. Mike Carrozza shows up too! Vance Michel is on mic for a hot second as well! It’s a World’s Smallest family reunion for their 8th Anniversary!

It’s wild that the crazy little brain child of Walter and Vance has been going strong for 8 years (even including a few “World’s Smallest” livestreams in the dark days of COVID) but here we are. Mike, Vance, Zach and Walter share some of their favorite stories from the World’s Smallest and we settle once and for all (until the next time he’s on the show) how to properly pronounce “Carrozza.” So head on out to Hurley’s and if you see a friendly looking fellow with curly hair behind the bar just order a “Walter” and tell him to Go Plug Yourself.

  • 9ES 371: We Should Own A Video Store
    Sep 13 2026

When I think about things from my formative years that people will definitely think of as old time and quaint within a few years, “video store” is always near the top of my list.

Video rental stores perhaps even more so.

The idea of paying money and risking pretty exorbitant late fees to bring a video cassette to your home for a few days must seem incredibly foreign now to the youth of today. The library still exists but that’s the library, it’s basically free! And it certainly doesn’t smell of popcorn and have a big “Blockbuster” sign outside.

Anyways, the vast majority of this episode pays homage to one of the great video rental traditions of yesteryear: the staff recommendations.

Starting in my later high-school years and well into college the first stop at any trip to the video rental store was the staff recommendations. Doubly so if there was a staffer that you had hit it off with in the past whose tastes aligned with yours. These folks watched movies all day. I was only going to be watching one movie this weekend. Their picks, and by extension their expertise, were invaluable. Ideally these weren’t new releases or movies everyone has already seen a dozen times, these were diamonds in the rough that only the seasoned video rental employee had seen. And, if you trusted them enough perhaps you would find your new favorite movie that nobody else had seen before.

So today we do the exercise: What are 9ES’ staff picks? This will likely become a recurring segment.

Garbage Time starts off pretty firmly rooted in yet another nostalgic trip down memory lane: we half-remember the joys of Harvey Birdman: Attorney At Law. We also catch up on some of early feelings regarding Lanterns and Widow’s Bay. Then the old nostalgia monsters rears its head again and we close things off with some half baked memories of the 2000s run of Battlestar Galactica.

If you would like to show your support and head over to Patreon and subscribe at the 9ES Deluxe tier to listen to this and all past episodes of Garbage Time that would be appreciated.

  • GPYS 342: Dawn McSweeney Returns
    Sep 5 2026

The Montreal arts & entertainment podcast that asks Dawn McSweeney: “What is the one place you recommend to someone you hate?” That question was asked by Sam Félix back in episode 341.

I joke during this episode that Dawn McSweeney is joining Walter J. Lyng, Troy Stark and I to do a victory lap following this year’s amazing edition of the World’s Smallest Comedy Festival but the truth is the great producers of this town never rest on their laurels. Troy and Dawn are teaming up to co-host “Dumpster Fire” on September 25th at Cafe Cleopatra, a comedy show dedicated to the trash, the wild cards, the unhinged stories, and the lovable dirtbags who make life interesting, headlined by Go Plug Yourself’s very own Chris Venditto. Dawn joins the Go Plug Yourself crew to talk about Iron Maiden, reality television and so much more. Sit back, relax, head out to Dumpster Fire on September 25th and enjoy the show.

  • 9ES 370: Going to the Punk Rock Show
    Aug 29 2026

I think historically I’ve probably been to the Vans Warped Tour more than Scott has but here we are in the year 2026 and I was sitting home and our boy Scott was out there at the Vans Warped Tour watching punk rock, skateboarding and pro-wrestling like it’s 1997.

How much did tickets to the Warped Tour cost this year? I’m not even sure. Pretty sure it was more than $30 I paid when I was in high school though.

Montreal has always been a city that has loved punk rock. You don’t even need to look that far back to see the two nights of sold out shows at Olympic Park for NOFX last year. Of course, that was 2024. Not last year at all. Time is a flat circle and also meaningless.

Scott went to both days of Vans Warped Tour this year AND went to go see Chance the Rapper celebrate the 10th anniversary of Coloring Book in the span of two weeks. Big week for the big man with bad knees.

Anyways, I saw Spiderman: Brand New Day and while it was definitely one of my favorite recent Marvel movies I have some strong opinions. Some of those opinions are definitely nits that I’ve picked but they are frustrating because it’s so close to being actually good and not just superhero good.

If you want to check out Garbage Time Scott continues his discovery of modern video games and talks a little about his time playing No Man’s Sky. Jon watched Robert Eggers’ The Northman and shares his takes. Scott has also been watching some new TV starting off with the new season of Reacher and the first episode of Lanterns. Finally I get you up to date with what you’ve all been waiting for: Draft mode in Marvel Snap.
