Good morning. Maine. I'm DJ Huzz. Arctic air has Alaska by the throat this morning. We're talking 30 to 40 degrees below normal for late February. This is the kind of cold that rewrites your plans. In the next 24 hours. The Interior is getting hammered the hardest. Overnight lows crashed to minus 41 degrees. Some valleys might touch 43 degrees below this weekend. Wind chills could hit minus 43 degrees. Today's high? MinU S One6. Tonight drops right back to minus 41. Sunday offers a tiny reprieve at minus 12. This is cover-every-inch-of-skin cold. Southcentral gets a slightly gentler version. After bottoming out at minus 16 overnight, sunshine pushes you to 7 degrees this afternoon. Wind chills near minus 27 around 5 A.M. Though. Frostbite doesn't ask permission. Tonight falls to minus 12. Sunday brings more sun and a high of 9 degrees. Southeast faces an entirely different beast. A Winter Storm Warning is active. Heavy snow rolls in this morning and peaks around 9 A.M. You're looking at 6 to 10 inches today. Another 3 to 5 tonight. Then Sunday delivers round two — 6 to 12 more inches for Petersburg and Wrangell. Travel will be a mess. The North Slope? A Blizzard Warning runs until 7 A.M. Gusts hit 55 miles an hour. Wind chills drop to minus 43 degrees. Frostbite happens in under five minutes. Here's the week ahead. The Arctic air slowly shifts east. Temperatures climb a few degrees each day. By Thursday. Southcentral could touch 20 degrees with a chance of snow. Southeast stays active with multiple systems. Relief from the brutal cold arrives midweek.
