I had a conversation recently with a highly successful business owner and mom of two who put words to something I hear all the time. She told me it feels like she’s constantly switching personas—one minute she’s deeply in client work, fully focused and solving problems, and the next she’s standing in the kitchen trying to cook dinner and connect with her kids…while her brain is still completely stuck in work mode.

And at the same time, she feels overstimulated, scattered, and frustrated because even though she’s physically with her kids, mentally she’s still answering messages, thinking about client problems, and running through the rest of her to-do list. That tension—between work mode and mom mode—is what we’re unpacking here, along with why it’s not a presence problem at all, but a transition problem, and what actually helps your brain move from one role to the next without burning you out.
