 「羅生門」は『今昔物語集』の「羅城門登上層見死人盗人語第十八」を題材として、1915年に帝国文学に発表された、芥川龍之介による初期の短編小説。生きるための悪という人間のエゴイズムについて、自身の解釈を加えて描かれており、そこには善悪の葛藤、生への執着、生物としての本能、人としての理性が交錯している。 - 地震、辻風、火事、饑饉と云う災いがつづけて起った京都の洛中、修理のあてもなく荒れ果てた羅生門には狐狸が棲み、盗人が棲み、身寄りのない死人が多く棄てられていた。ある日の暮方、羅生門の下で一人の下人が雨やみを待っていた。一夜の寝床を求めて門のまわりを見回すと、門の上の楼へ上る、幅の広い、丹を塗った梯子が眼についた…(C)Pan Rolling Littérature du monde
