15 hours of content crunched into 11 hours

Where most adventure/romance books suffer from a lack of plot “Wormwood Summer” falls close to having the opposite problem. The story and characters build up quickly before boiling down to a core set so that reading this book feels like riding a bullet train through a gothic station.

I would have liked to have seen different pacing with the romance. The relationship feels rushed with little courtship and it becomes uncannily stable given the dynamic personalities involved. I could see this develop into a compelling plot in the next book if the author opts to explore the pitfalls and underlying motivators of a wildfire romance, particularly concerning issues of trust.

Greg Tremblay once again delivers a rich performance drawing out the heart of the characters and narrative he performs.

Overall I look forward to the next book and may pick up physical copies of this series if it develops well.

    Literally a step under Excellence!!!

Simply a great, entertaining story that I Need more of!!!
It is on the longer side but was completely necessary for the amount of history and world building required to paint the backdrop of the tale but it never once felt bogged down or arduous throughout that gargantuan task! Can’t recommend highly enough.
Intimate scenes are brief and subdued so if you’re looking for graphic depictions look elsewhere.

Last but certainly not least… Greg Tremblay could teach a master class on narration and voice acting!
Seriously one of the greatest performances I’ve heard in a long time, creating, keeping straight and switching seamlessly between over a dozen uniques male and female alike, additionally adding amazingly real inflections and lending complete realism to a subject matter that could easily have been downplayed or ignored.
    Possibly my new favorite Narrator!!!!

    Fun Fantasy

-I found myself looking forward to my hour commute. That in and of itself is why I am leaving a note.
I'll be buying the next in this series, the cliffhanger has me intrigued. Fantasy is my go to genre, and Kai Butler did not disappoint. The story was concise allowing me to keep attention, while also finding I cared about the characters they painted with a "quickened heart".
The intimate scenes were more than I needed, but I realize this sells books. I found Parker's relationship to be sweet, funny and believable.
The magicks were explained, and fun, especially enjoying when Parker spoke to Nature to assist in his bidding. A fully developed otherworldly realm brought all of this together.
If you want a light, enjoyable Fantasy listen/read, you can't do better than Kai Butler in this new series/novel.

Think Dresden Files or Iron Druid

Decent cast of fun characters. Interesting magic system that I really enjoyed. Plot moved along never dragging. I look forward to what comes next.

    Complex, intriguing, epic tale

Witches, Fae, Werewolves, Warlocks, and Alchemists. Throw in a zombie, demon, dragon and vamp or two just for fun. This story has it all! The different factions barely tolerate each other and someone is killing creatures to drain their magic. It’s up to one deeply closeted fae changeling (no one knows he is fae!) to figure it all out! Throw in a powerful alchemist police detective and sparks fly. The plot drives this story, and the romantic interest is not the focal point although it sure does complicate things. No angst in this book- just straightforward men and creatures pulling on threads that help unravel a mystery. The politics of wolf society, fae governance, and magic users in general is fascinating. So many things happen in this story that I would call this an epic tale! The different types of magic and how each are used and differ is explained in a seamless, intriguing, and integrated part of the story- none of the long explanations that I find in other authors writings which are tedious and boring. The complexity of the story at times made me re-think certain parts to wrap my brain around them, which may detract other readers but I find a good brain teaser refreshing. Greg Trembley does an outstanding job bringing life to all the characters. His portrayal of people and elements through use of accents, distinct voices, and emotional nuance is amazing. Wait until you hear the ancient old soul that is called on from deep in the earth!

    Fun Romantic Fantasy

This is a great start to a story family that includes Fae, Witches, Werewolves, Demons and the like. The characters show humor along with creativity as they move through their challenges.

    Great Story

I was hesitant at first, but except for the overly graphic sex scenes (in my opinion), this book was fantastic. Just do what I did and fast forward through them. you won't be sorry

great story made even better by narrator

I loved this as an ebook and when I saw Greg Tremblay was reading it I had to have the audio book. Fantastic! complex and compelling plot, with a nuanced reading. What more could we ask for?

    Best book ever

Hands down, this book has the best gay romance I have ever read in a book series. If you are wanting to read a book that doesn’t play on cliche tropes, check this one out. The characters are beautifully written in way that draws you in and leaves you wanting more. The magic system in the book universe is one of the greatest. As someone that has studied different magic systems for my own writings, this one feels fresh and new. It uses things I would have never thought of. The sense of humor is delightful charming and witty! I am already getting the next book!

    A riveting tale

And I love how magic works here! The different styles -witchcraft, alchemy, fey and werewolf magic are all explained in a way that makes sense and though there isn't much detail yet, I have hopes for future books.
The plot is interesting enough, with a smart main character and a pretty cool alchemist. The whole mystery was set-up very well and it ended in a way that made a lot of sense.

The narrator does a good job on the different voices and puts just enough acting into the story to make Parker believable.

Personally I hope the second book of the series will be turned into an audiobook as well!

    Tolle Geschichte
