An early look at Strahd

Any fan of the Ravenloft setting should experience this book, it gives a unique insight into the personality of Count Strahd, especially in regards to how he reacts under pressure.

The character of Jander serves as a fasinating and likable protagonist, reacting either with grim humour or by rolling his eyes when confronted by the horrors of Barovia.

All around this story is a well written tale both from a grim as well as from a casually humorous standpoint, something not easily done.
Brilliant work to be sure.

Just no

The narrator is dry and monotonous. The editining is poorly done with a constant fading at the start of each cut. I am thoroughly disappointed in this audio book.

Ravenloft Is Back

One of my favorite Ravenloft books,To hear it on tape is amazing especially since I lost a lot of my sight. These books have for a long time been out of print, due to TSR being sold to Wizards of the coast, I hope they reprint and make them on tape of the Ravenloft series.

Wonderful book! Wonderful Narrator!

An absolute must-read for anyone who is a fan of D&D literature or Ravenloft. Left so distraught at some points, but also filled with hopefulness at others. A truly well-written piece of fiction that has replaced any other book as my #1 favorite!

a beginning of the story

the narrator does his best to change voices for the characters... but it's not necessary. this book was recommended by a friend and I thoroughly enjoyed the tale, ready for book 2!

The Journey

I personally enjoyed the "long game" theme the author wrote for the main character; one with centuries yet still to live wouldn't feel an overwhelming drive for haste anyways, and I appreciate the illusion of authenticity this departed on me.

A small glimpse of an expansive story setting.

I've read several of Christie Golden's newer works and her style has remained consistent for 25 years. The story itself is an interesting snapshot of a complex setting with a lot of interesting characters. It left me wanting to know more about the background of Ravenloft, Strahd, and the dozen other loose ended mysteries. It is good reading that ties into "the curse of strahd" 5e campaign book.
