Description
Penguin presents the unabridged downloadable audiobook edition of Undercover Princess by Connie Glynn.
When fairy-tale obsessed Lottie Pumpkin starts at the infamous Rosewood Hall, she is not expecting to share a room with the Crown Princess of Maradova, Ellie Wolf. Due to a series of lies and coincidences, 14-year-old Lottie finds herself pretending to be the princess so that Ellie can live a more normal teenage life.
Lottie is thrust into the real world of royalty - a world filled with secrets, intrigue and betrayal. She must do everything she can to help Ellie keep her secret, but with school, the looming Maradovian ball and the mysterious new boy, Jamie, she'll soon discover that reality doesn't always have the happily ever after you'd expect....
A thrilling world of parties, politics and badass princesses, this is the first book in the brand-new series The Rosewood Chronicles.

The shape of career to come
Following this new author on YouTube in the lead-up to the launch of her first book, I wasn't entirely sure what to expect. I'm not averse to, or above reading young adult fiction books, but it's also not a genre that makes it onto my list all that often. Based on the hints and glimpses of the story the author promoted through her channel, I couldn't help but get the feeling that this would be a Harry Potter meets The Princess Diaries. And if it were, it would be worthwhile exploring. Boy was I pleasantly surprised.
The story, the characters, the setting, and the pacing are all extremely well crafted. It had me intrigued from the very beginning. In many ways it reminded me of my fondness for The Prince and the Pauper, but with a much more modern and layered spin. One thing I am still having trouble getting over, is how well the author captured the principles of duty and honour. In numerous parts it had me choking up, and a handful of times outright tearing up and sniffling. Evoking such emotions is challenging for even more seasoned writers with many more years of life experience to tap into. Given the author's age, I have to say that my hope for the future has been renewed.
Connie Glynn, you are an unstoppable force. I look forward to the next installment.

Overall very enjoyable
Connie’s reading was wonderful. I believe it really made a beautiful version of the story, told with such care.
The story itself is sweet and dramatic. The characters are likable and make for an interesting group.
Overall, it’s a nice listen if your looking for something that isn’t too heavy and want a younger YA fantasy vibe

This book
What a beautiful book. The story itself is beyond anything I expected. Its quirky, funny, and magical all in one book. I loved it so much, in the last 20 mins I ended up buying the first three books just so I could have the physical copies. (And also because I’m too impatient to wait for the release of the second one) I’ll be reading/listening to the entire series now so, here we go!

My new favorite book series!
I'm not very good with words, so, in a nutshell: Everything about this book feels like it's catered to me and my interests, specifically, so I guess you could say I enjoyed it very much.
I found this series through it's house sorting quiz on it's delightful little website (adorably illustrated, by the way) and was happy to see it was available on audible!
Without doing much research on the book or it's author, I dove in and found myself incredibly enchanted with it's characters. The concept of whimsical princess adventures within a boarding school setting is something I've always loved, and it's easy for me to shut off my brain and get sucked into the magic of things even if certain parts of a story and characters leave me wanting. However, only half an hour into THIS book, and I already knew I'd be able to enjoy myself to the fullest.
The friendships and Other Beautifully Surprising, And Very Much Welcomed relationship developments, in this story is something I've been craving for so long and some of the interactions had me burying a stupid grin in my hands Multiple times (something that rarely happens outside of reading a particularly good fanfiction) There is so much love and affection and trust shared between others. It stresses the importance of close bonds and inspiring each other to be stronger, to be better. It shows that there's strength in vulnerability and that one of the bravest things a person can do is be kind and empathetic in a world that sees those things as weak.
The story carried a certain heavy weight and a sense of mystery and peril in a way I didn't expect, either. I almost made myself late to work because I just HAD to finish a chapter, otherwise I'd be stressing out worrying about a favorite character!
I'm poor at leaving reviews, but I had to share my happiness.
Thank you Connie Glynn, I don't know how I'll survive your next two books.

princess fun
My 7 year old and I really enjoyed listening to the book. I was having her follow along in the paperbook, but the wording did not always line up. Overall the book had a nice storyline, interesting characters, and enough twists to keep you on your toes. We are excited for the next book to come out.

Not Appropriate for the Stated Age Range
Warning potential spoilers ahead.
On the inside cover of this book it reads, “Ages 8 - 12”. My 10 year old daughter checked this book out from our local library. We began reading some parts of the story together and admittedly I became interested in the plot so, I decided to get the book on Audible and listen to it.
The main characters of this story range in age from 13 - 15 and the author almost hyper sexualizes them with waaay to intimate encounters with each other. I don’t know of any kids this age that would even be having encounters like the ones described in the book. Listening to some of the encounters made me as an adult uncomfortable and I began to wonder what my 10 was thinking as she read the book.
One of the scenes in the book describes how the main character comes to realize two other female character who are maybe 14 are in “love”. Now, it’s not the two female characters that bothered me, it was the fact that they are 14 and “in love”. It was too much of an adult situation for two 14 year olds.
I decided to ask my 10 year old daughter about how she was liking the book. I was thinking maybe I was just being too critical and if my 10 year old wasn’t picking up on some of the same things I was then I wasn’t going to make an issue of them. So, I asked her what was she liking about the book and what maybe she wasn’t liking. She told me the book was really interesting and she couldn’t wait to read what happens next and at first that was all she said. Then a few minutes later she says, “mom, there was a part of the book that I thought was weird”. She then went on to describe a scene between the two main characters who are 13 year old roommates at Rosewood. In this scene one of the girls is dyeing her hair with out a shirt on. The roommate comes in and begins to help her with rinsing out the hair dye. The author then goes on to describe the girls “sinewy, flat-chested body” that could easily be “mistaken for a boy. Yet, there was nothing masculine about her; her frame was somehow soft and delicate, almost genderless”. This part of the book, not necessarily these descriptors by themselves but the hair dye scene as a whole made my daughter feel uncomfortable.
In conclusion, I really don’t think this book is appropriate for an 8-12 year old. If the author was going to put this kind of content in a book the characters should have been older, maybe 17 - 19 and the book should have been marketed to an older age range.

What a fun new series!
Would you listen to Undercover Princess again? Why?
Of course! Connie Glynn has a nice therapeutic voice which nice when someone is reading a book to you. The storyline is well written and you get attached to the characters.
What other book might you compare Undercover Princess to and why?
Fated (The Soul Seeker series by Alyson Noël)
Which character – as performed by the narrators – was your favorite?
Lottie Pumpkin, she is very nice and thinks before she speaks which is always good.
If you were to make a film of this book, what would the tag line be?
Best friends with a princess
Any additional comments?
I can't wait for book 2. I'm defiantly going to have to re-listen to this book. I loved listening to this book on long car rides.
