The kingdom of Cornucopia was once the happiest in the world. It had plenty of gold, a king with the finest moustache you could possibly imagine, and butchers, bakers, and cheesemongers whose exquisite foods made a person dance with delight when they ate them. Everything was perfect - except for the misty Marshlands to the north, which, according to legend, were home to the monstrous Ickabog. Anyone sensible knew that the Ickabog was just a myth to scare children into behaving. But the funny thing about myths is that sometimes they take on a life of their own.

On an island off the coast of Ireland, guests gather to celebrate two people joining their lives together as one. The groom: handsome and charming, a rising television star. The bride: smart and ambitious, a magazine publisher. It’s a wedding for a magazine or for a celebrity: the designer dress, the remote location, the luxe party favors, the boutique whiskey. The cell phone service may be spotty and the waves may be rough, but every detail has been expertly planned and will be expertly executed.

When editor Susan Ryeland is given the tattered manuscript of Alan Conway's latest novel, she has little idea it will change her life. She's worked with the revered crime writer for years, and his detective, Atticus Pund, is renowned for solving crimes in the sleepy English villages of the 1950s. As Susan knows only too well, vintage crime sells handsomely. It's just a shame that it means dealing with an author like Alan Conway.... But Conway's latest tale of murder at Pye Hall is not quite what it seems.

When Barry Fairweather dies unexpectedly in his early 40s, the little town of Pagford is left in shock. Pagford is, seemingly, an English idyll, with a cobbled market square and an ancient abbey, but what lies behind the pretty façade is a town at war. Rich at war with poor, teenagers at war with their parents, wives at war with their husbands, teachers at war with their pupils.... Pagford is not what it at first seems. And the empty seat left by Barry on the town's council soon becomes the catalyst for the biggest war the town has yet seen.

Description
Private Detective Cormoran Strike is visiting his family in Cornwall when he is approached by a woman asking for help finding her mother, Margot Bamborough - who went missing in mysterious circumstances in 1974. Strike has never tackled a cold case before, let alone one 40 years old. But despite the slim chance of success, he is intrigued and takes it on; adding to the long list of cases that he and his partner in the agency, Robin Ellacott, are currently working on.
Robin herself is juggling a messy divorce and unwanted male attention, as well as battling her own feelings about Strike. As Strike and Robin investigate Margot's disappearance, they come up against a fiendishly complex case with leads that include tarot cards, a psychopathic serial killer and witnesses who cannot all be trusted. And they learn that even cases decades old can prove to be deadly....
A breathtaking, labyrinthine epic, Troubled Blood is the fifth Strike and Robin novel and the most gripping and satisfying yet.

Another deep and light study of humanity
I loved this book. I got immersed, again, into the many facets of the characters, threads are woven naturally. Life and death, love and hate, friendship, ridicule... The crimes reveal the everchanging hues of humanity, fragile, heroic, pathetic, deranged. Another handbook on human relations from which you emerge a better person. Well done.
Like the four other novels, I first got the audiobook, read by Robert Glenister, and I really love the way he renders the voices. Robin and Strike are vivid, alive in their own right.

Another great Strike novel
Great narrator, great plot. One thing that keeps bugging me is that names of reappearing secondary characters get changed from a book to a book. Ilsa Herbert became Isla Herbert in this one, Chiara Porter from the first book was Chiara Parker in the next.

There is nothing better than good story telling.
I loved it and it was never boring in spite of the length. Actually, I was surprised when I realized just now how many listening hours this book provides. It was a pleasure to enjoy it. Hopefully, there will be a next one in the series soon. The people come to life and there are stories within stories. And thankfully it was not so gruesome I had to skip forward. I think I'll listen to it again very soon to fully appreciate the book and the narrator.

Unbelievable, unpleasant, disappointing
I'm not sure what was in the author's mind with this story. I was interested at the start, and as I could listen to Robert Glenister read the paper for 30 hours, it was easy just to keep listening. It was good to hear Robin & Strike's "voices" again, and there were some parts that rang true. The details about their other cases though - the main plot was about a 40 year old disappearance - was in too much detail and, given all the other detective's background in police work, I found the length of time it took for them to work out one of the cases ridiculous.
The astrological stuff was just boring - I skipped many bits just waiting for something intelligible - and it didn't ring true that Robin would start consulting the tarot. The fact that the author actually recreated the notebook into a PDF feels like such a waste of time - I would have preferred she concentrate more on her characters.
There is way too much information about the terrible things that the serial killer did to his victims - things that are hard to forget once the image is in your mind. I really didn't need that and I think the level of detail was completely unnecessary.
But the most unbelievable part of the story was in the last few chapters, when the case was solved. I may have missed something, but I have no idea how they worked out where to look. So ultimately unsatisfying and quite disappointing. I've loved all the previous books and was so looking forward to this one.

A really great whodunit
This is superb detective story with lots of detail, suspense and a great narration. it's long but interesting both with regards to the mystery but also the main characters.
Galbraith has in my opinion breathed new life to the genre. Very well done 👍
One might argue that the detective agency wasn't too smart with their time management and deployment of assets in their cases. No one can afford 24/7 surveillance on a infidelity case or similar and quite frankly it's not very smart to post someone outside a house all night long. Not perhaps very realistic.
But this was a minor complaint in an otherwise great book.
the narrator did a fantastic job.

The double-Robert dream team
I loved it! So so much! Robert Glenister again most convincing in Robert Galbraiths newest excellent adventure of Cormoran Strike and Robin Ellacott. The newest case is, though a cold case, very exciting, and the insight of Cormorans and Robins feelings pretty much as exciting without it being cheesy. The 2 year wait for this book was worth every second. When is the next one coming?

Another great Strike book. Loved the main story, but I also loved the side plots like the completion of Matthew's story and, of course, the romance between Strike and Robin (which doesn't mean I never wanted to hit them both round the head with exasperation). Looking forward to the next instalment!
