Description
Life gets complicated when love turns out to be nothing like you expected - and the woman you want is too close to touch. Gretchen Kaiser is a workaholic corporate honcho with issues - she’s got daddy issues, she’s got female-executive-in-a-man’s-world issues, and she’s got one-night-stand issues. What she doesn’t have are love issues. She isn’t looking for it, she doesn’t feel she needs it, and she doesn’t expect to find it…certainly not right under her nose.
Kylie O’Brien is the kind of girl who believes in true love and is willing to wait until it shows up at her door. Her best friend, Mick, would sweep her off her feet given the chance, but Mick doesn’t make Kylie feel the way true love should. And now Kylie has to worry about her new boss.... Gretchen Kaiser’s icy reserve makes life as her administrative assistant a challenge. It doesn’t matter one damn bit that Gretchen is extremely attractive with a voice as rich and smooth as melted chocolate. It absolutely doesn’t…

Too close to the formula
My daughter has exposed me to new types of literature in the last three years; both in audio as well as written form. One of these is lesbian fiction. Some of these works are excellent and I've enjoyed listening to them and discussing them with her. I thought for a time that this would be one of the most positive experiences in the genre. Then began the whole lack of communication leading to misunderstandings; insecurities boil over and the whole why would she want me angst and I was soon searching for a diversion until some sort of resolution was finally reached. In the end I gave it three stars due the protracted playing out of the drama that seriously detracted a great deal from this audiobook. Because while I liked the characters almost universally; the long contrived pseudo romantic dance became too tiresome and managed to pull down the rest of the work.

Who weeeeee - that Georgia Beers is a writing ass! I mean the intricate ins and outs of relationships and the deep in depth emotional roller coaster of feelings is absolutely the best ever!! Keep on writing Ms Beers you da best! That Abby is a reading ass -- she could read the phone book and make it sound good! Keep on reading!! A+++ great read!

spoiler alert
I didnt realize I had actually read this book 3 years ago til it got to the reason why I remember not liking it very much. I dont care what anyone says, if that scene between Mik and Kylie had been between a "Male bestfriend" instead of female, it would've been seen as attempted rape and not glossed over. Kylie was wrong for using Mik at first but the second Kylie started saying "no. stop." Mik kept going. Eventually, she stopped but still. It's hard for me to care for this character after this. Yet the author tries to make you and it jus comes off as kinda toxic. This really was unnecessary. Also Kylie's being friends with Mik for 20 years and despite Mik doing EVERYTHING for her (she even massages her feet) and never noticing she has feelings for her is a bit unbelievable and kinda makes her seem self absorbed. The rest of the story is ok. I dont really see where "love" came but that's just me

Competing with Your Boss for the Same Woman!
Mick finds out that the woman she was buying drinks for at the bar last night is her new boss, Gretchen. Uh-oh!
To makes things more awkward, they end up falling for the same girl; Kyle, the office brown nose. It's not going to be a fair competition, though— Gretchen is a Meryl-Streep-Devil-Wears-Prada-type boss who won't give up. Her best erotic weapon? An icy reserve that could freeze liquid mercury.

Love it
I've never heard of Georgia Beers before. I looked at the other reviews and agree this is a good book. The relationship between Gretchen and Kylie is not rushed and is realistic loved that. Also liked the woman where around my age. I enjoyed this book. Also Abby is my favorite narrator. Every book I've bought with her has been wonderful.

Not sure who I was supposed to be rooting for...
Any additional comments?
I am a Georgia Beers fan, I have read several of her books and enjoyed them immensely. That is probably why I was so disappointed in this read. The characters didn't develop fully for me, mostly coming across as one-dimensional, self-centered and not very likable. I wasn't sure which pairing I was supposed to be rooting for, with the one semi-sympathetic character losing in the end in more ways than one.
But the greatest distraction for me was the narration. The deeper or masculine voices were done with a weird, scratchy affect that ended up sounding like Danny from the Shining saying "redrum." Lines that seemed to be part of a normal conversation were delivered with tones of anger or seduction that threw off the whole story. I found it really hard to get involved fully in the story when I was so put off by the narration.

Not the best
Georgia Beers is one of my favorite authors, but really missed the mark with one of the lead characters in this one. Gretchen's treatment of the staff is reprehensible and, in trying to make us like the character so that we are invested in the romance between the leads, that fact is kind of whitewashed. There are several mentions of the improvement in the numbers that come from Gretchen's management style but, even if that were true, the ends do NOT justify the means and there is never really a point where she seems to change that attitude toward any of the staff she isn't trying to date. She is completely unlikable.

Awful. Just awful.
I love Abby, usually enjoy Beers but this book was so awful I had to double check that I read it correctly. After looking at other reviews on other sites I realized that I was not alone in being disgusted with one of the MCs and the whole entire book. The one mc I refer to practically rapes one of the the other mcs. The big butchy les who hates the beautiful icy boss character and harbors feeling for 25 years for the sweet naive assistant of said boss. The boss and assistant like each other cuz duh. The almost rape scene is so pathetic I have to warn you people. The butch finally tell her bestie (the assistant) of her feelings by taking advantage of her while she’s drunk and emotional. The woman says no more than once and even feels bad for her at the end of the novel. This book is utter trash. Trust me.

Is what it is
There's nothing spectacular about this, it is what it is a trashy romance ,not that theirs anything wrong with trashy romances ,sometimes that's just what you require if that's what you want than this shouldn't disappoint.

Typischer Schmöker mit Happy End
Georgia Beers ist hier wieder ein typischer "Frau-trifft-Frau" Schmöker gelungen. Leichte Kost und die Entwicklung der Charaktere schön mitzuerleben.
Mir gefallt's! :-)
