The bitter conflict between the Union and Confederacy, spanning four terrible years from 1861 to 1865, brought the United States of America to the brink of annihilation. Families throughout the nation were torn apart by the Civil War, where soldiers died and their loved ones were left behind in a desperate struggle to survive.
