Commentaires
"An amazing literary feat in its minute delineation of a neurotic personality." ( Chicago Tribune)
"Beautifully translated... Mishima re-erects Kyoto, plain and mountain, monastery, temple, town, as Victor Hugo made Paris out of Notre Dame." ( The Nation)
A dark masterpiece

It is all the more griping that it is written in the first person, with the major character’s reasoning warping more and more as one reads on.
The finale is based on actual facts, but it is difficult to make out reality from fiction in the overall story.
Though disheartening, the work is certainly interesting, particularly of course for those who wish to learn more about Japanese way of life and mentality.
In the audio version, the narrator is a slightly hesitant young man whose rendition fits perfectly with the character’s quirky personality.
Sad!
