Description

The Bible offers some clues to God's personality - he's alternately been called vindictive and just, bloodthirsty and caring, all-powerful and impotent, capricious and foresighted, and loving and hateful. But no one has ever fully explored why God might be such a figure of contrasts. Nor has anyone ever satisfactorily explained what guides his relationship not just with angels, the devil, and his son, but also with all of creation. Might he be completely misunderstood, a mystery even to himself? Might his behavior and actions toward humankind tell us much more about him than it does about us? Enter the mind of the creator of the universe, travel with him through the heavenly highs and hellish lows of his story, from Genesis to Revelation, to better understand his burdensome journey: being God isn't easy. After hearing his story - at times troubling and tragic but always hilarious in its absurdity and divine in its comedy - you'll never look at a miracle or catastrophe - or at our place in the universe, or God's - the same way again.

Ever Wonder What God Was Thinking?

An excellent look into the Bible as a spectator. Chris Matheson takes you on a journey through the mind of Yahweh in a way only a nonbeliever could. What makes God tick? What was he thinking? What is his fascination with male genitals? These questions and many more are waiting in thin humorous romp through the Bible.

Hilarious unique take on the old time story

A look into the mind of the troubled creator, which helps to explain the inconsistencies of the bible and gods actions.

Liked how the author took a tour of the bible from beginning to end. Bringing up stories and events and spinning them into the narrative.

Only complaint is that it was not long enough. Wish this had been as long as the actual bible (minus the begats). Some of the stories (like Samson) were glossed over. Hope Chris does a series of these with more in depth stories focusing on some of the other characters.

Liberal but this Book was Hair Raising

Wow... Almost returned it, but as a Hickite Quaker and trying to expand my knowledge and interpretation of the Almighty, I didn't. After all, there are many understandings of God.
What I liked about the book was that it did remind me of stories of the Old Testament, that I enjoyed. But God here is pictured as a bit of a dope and extremely vengeful.

I don't want to ruin it but if you can be open minded, you might like to take a look at this version of God. The performance was terrific.

Also, don't go outside during a thunderstorm, the temptation for God to send a bolt of lightening your way may be too great. :)

Funny!!!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Yes! It's a funny play on the bible. The conversations between God & Satan are by far the best. The narrator does a fantastic job of conveying sarcasm and emotion.

Who was your favorite character and why?

Aside from the main character and narrator (God/God's thoughts), I would say Satan. He only plays a small role in the story, but the narrator does a fantastic job with him.

Have you listened to any of Chris Matheson’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

No.

Funny. Reminds us to not take life too seriously.

It turns out god is a bit of a dick. Who knew? Such fun. Ok.

Fun but monotonous

What a wonderful idea for a book! but the narration is monotonous, and the story gets old after the first few chapters. it was hard to sense any overarching story; just the same story told throughout different biblical myths

the funniest thing I have ever listened to!

I loves this book. I read it in print first, then listened to it. So amazingly well told.

The only version of Jehova that makes sense

Author does a perfect job of presenting the "divine" terrorist Jehova as he truly is.

Fantastic, hilarious, entertaining

The Bible makes so much more sense from this perspective. It’s lighthearted fun poked at one of literature’s most bloody villains.

Weird and Funny

This was well researched and so strange. I really enjoyed this book. It's the oddest book report of the Bible.
