Everyone says opposites attract. And they must be right, because there’s no logical reason why I’m so drawn to Colin Fitzgerald. I don’t usually go for tattoo-covered, video-gaming, hockey-playing nerd-jocks who think I’m flighty and superficial. His narrow view of me is the first strike against him. It doesn’t help that he’s buddy-buddy with my brother. And that his best friend has a crush on me. And that I just moved in with them. Oh, did I not mention we’re roommates?
Description
City girl Calla Fletcher attempts to reconnect with her estranged father, and unwittingly finds herself torn between her desire to return to the bustle of Toronto and a budding relationship with a rugged Alaskan pilot in this masterful new romance from acclaimed author K.A. Tucker.
Calla Fletcher was two when her mother took her and fled the Alaskan wild, unable to handle the isolation of the extreme, rural lifestyle, leaving behind Calla’s father, Wren Fletcher, in the process. Calla never looked back, and at 26, a busy life in Toronto is all she knows. But when her father reaches out to inform her that his days are numbered, Calla knows that it’s time to make the long trip back to the remote frontier town where she was born.
She braves the roaming wildlife, the odd daylight hours, the exorbitant prices, and even the occasional - dear God - outhouse, all for the chance to connect with her father: a man who, despite his many faults, she can’t help but care for. While she struggles to adjust to this new subarctic environment, Jonah - the quiet, brooding, and proud Alaskan pilot who keeps her father’s charter plane company operational - can’t imagine calling anywhere else home. And he’s clearly waiting with one hand on the throttle to fly this city girl back to where she belongs, convinced that she’s too pampered to handle the wild.
Jonah is probably right, but Calla is determined to prove him wrong. As time passes, she unexpectedly finds herself forming a bond with the burly pilot. As his undercurrent of disapproval dwindles, it’s replaced by friendship - or perhaps something deeper? But Calla is not in Alaska to stay and Jonah will never leave. It would be foolish of her to kindle a romance, to take the same path her parents tried - and failed at - years ago.
It’s a simple truth that turns out to be not so simple after all.

🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 5 STARS 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟
This book.... yeah I'm just a ball of emotions right now! First, I have a love for Alaskan settings in books so even though KA Tucker is a MUST read author for me, I would have grabbed this up because of the setting alone. This book was about so many things for me. The strained or nonexistent relationship between a father and a daughter, fixing things before it's too late, true love (maybe even soul-mates) and not making the same mistakes your parents did. All of these things are true, beautiful and heart-breaking in this story. I loved the way this book made me feel from sorrow, to anger, to love and to loss. Besides all the feels, this book had amazing banter between two of the main characters which had me smiling a lot while listening! The ending made my heart soar and there is nothing better to me than when characters figure things out and do what needs to be done no matter the consequences or fear that may arise! Loved this book <3 The narration was perfect! Love all her work and she was a great choice for this book!

I delighted in every moment
Sometimes it can be hard to express exactly how much we enjoyed a book. I could compare my experience listening to The Simple Wild to food (that bacon maple donut I had this morning) or I could compare it to a feeling (toes in the grass, fresh mountain air, warm campfires on damp nights) or I could compare it to another book, even (Northern Lights by Nora Roberts without the murder?). But none of it would really QUITE capture what I’m trying to say: that I loved all that this book was—all that I felt while listening to it (thank you Rebekkah Ross)—and I hope other people will feel the same way.

Heartfelt Journey of Self Discovery
Overall 4.5 stars Performance 5 stars Story 4.5 stars There was so much hype for this book that I was a bit intimidated to start it. I decided to just jump right in though and I'm so glad I took the leap. This was a truly emotional experience. Yes, there is romance, but the larger story between Calla and her father, Wren, is the heart of this book. It made me examine my own relationship with my father and how quickly things come into focus when time isn't on your side. It took me a bit to warm up to Calla because she came across so shallow and privileged in the beginning. I understand that this was all a part of her character arc and was a necessary evil to allow her to really discover herself, but many times it felt over the top. I did like seeing her mature and change through the course of the book, and by the end, my heart really went out to her. The sparks between her and Jonah were deliciously fun and their banter and back and forth was one of the highlights of the book. The opposites attract/enemies to lovers vibe was the best and it was so fun seeing them try to get a rise out of the other. Jonah's blunt honesty was a little jarring at first, but like Calla, I came to appreciate his candor. I also really loved all the secondary characters, especially patient and loving Agnes. I did shed some tears by the end of the book, but I liked that the author left the ending hopeful and open ended. The narration by Rebekkah Ross was fantastic and I thought she did an amazing job bringing this story to life. Her male and female voices were great and I had no problem distinguishing between characters. She gave an emotional performance, one moment delivering snarky quips and the next, heart wrenching dialogue. This is only my second KA Tucker book, but her writing is truly beautiful. Many times I felt like I was right there in Alaska. I'm excited that a sequel, Wild at Heart, is being released soon, and I can't wait to get back into the wild with the yeti and Barbie.

The good, the bad, and THE YETI.
What a well rounded, complete story. I was not expecting all of the emotions that were brought on by KA Tucker but I’m glad they came either way. Every character brought something to this story and I felt like I could picture rural Alaska vividly. The details provided didn’t have me second guessing the settings or way of life at all. Calla & Jonah were so perfect in such a honest and real way that you couldn’t help but root for them. And Wren and Simon those guys broke my heart, all in all this is a must read/listen. (Trust me I’ve done both already!)

WORTH IT.
I will admit, at first, she annoyed me - so high maintenance. But she eventually comes around. And Jonah is a great book boyfriend - he's swoon worthy. Just push through the beginning parts when you are learning about her being this spoiled ultra girlie girl and wait for her to realize that there is more to life. Jonah never really has to change, he was perfect all along. If men in Alaska were truly like Jonah, I'd fly there tomorrow. The story about her father adds an extra layer of love and heartbreak. I cried when they cried and I quickly fell for the Jonah. When it was over, I wish I could have more time with him. - as will you.

Wonderful Story - A Must Read
This was my first novel from this author, it won't be my last. I absolutely went on a journey with the characters in this book. Getting a peek into the lives of people who choose to live in remote areas of the world was eye opening and beautiful. The story of this fractured family is so poignant. The choices they make to love and forgive, hold on and let go had me crying in my kitchen as I listened while making supper tonight. There are love stories galore in this book, but the story of Cala and Jonah was beautiful. The themes in this book have me thinking and I love when a book gives you that gift. This read was worth the credit, in fact I would gladly have paid 2 credits.

My favorite KA Tucker book!
I LOVED this book. I thought the characters were well developed and there was plenty of comedy to balance the serious bits of the book. I loved the development of the characters and their relationships with one another. It also made me really want to visit Alaska!

Though it is quite obvious what is going to happen, the story is enchanting through its various insights into Alaskan nature and culture. I didn‘t like the speaker‘s “male“ voice though. Which man speaks like that??
